Guitar cabinet simulators

Hi all!

I just ordered a new amp (Orange Micro Terror) and I want to be able to record direct with its line out. Are there any options on the iPad for cabinet simulation? BIAS has this feature but I can't seem to be able to turn the amp sim off. I want to bypass everything but the cab sim.

I know Auria has THM, but a) I'm not sure if that can be used as just a cab sim, and b) I don't own Auria and am not about to purchase it and THM, especially since I'm still using an iPad 2.

Any other ideas, or is the PC my only option?
Thanks!

  • Just checked all but THM:

Ampkit, Amplitube and ToneStack will let you run cab only.

JamUp Pro, BIAS and Flying Haggis will not.

  • Checked THM too, it will do cab-only

  • I am a big fan of convolution impulses and use them to get character and space out of a sterile guitar or bass track. I would normally recommend Auria, but you aren't going in that direction. There must be a few convolution reverb apps out there as stand alone. One important thing is that the app either has to have very short IR's or it should have a way to import your own IR's. BTW, REAPER has a utility that will process the convolution for you after you've recorded an acoustic space. This is just one awesome feature and it's one of the main reasons I still use REAPER frequently along with Auria.

  • Great! Looks like I do have some options available. I had not expected to find an app like Fiddlicator. It reminds me of how awesome the iPad can be for musicians, and how great this forum is. Thanks for the help everyone.

  • Sorry, I'm slow - How do I download IRs and open them in Fiddlicator?

  • I've just been downloading them onto my pc, emailing them to myself, and then opening them in Fiddlicator direct from my email client (Mailbox).

But I'm sure Audioshare can download them from its inbuilt browser and open them in Fiddlicator.

  • Any convolution reverb (CR) app, i.e. Altispace, etc. that let's you load your own IRs should work for this. I've been playing with using the CR in Logic Pro X for cab sims for a while, still not sure if its the way to go yet.

  • I download using iPad Safari and Open In... The zip or or RAR in GoodReader then after unpacking Open In... Fiddlicator or AltiSpace.
