Do Animoog's virtual ports still exist?

Way back when, you could tap on the MIDI In and Out boxes and the ANIMOOG MIDI IN or ANIMOOG MIDI OUT ports would just suddenly appear and you had beautiful virtual MIDI. Was that removed in a recent update? I cannot get those to show up for the life of me and it is making me sad.

  • Restore purchases? Maybe what you're looking for was part of the IAP.

No luck, unfortunately, thanks for the suggestion

  • That was fixed in the 2.2.3 upgrade released on 10/29/14.its been working well for me.ipad Air 1 IOS 7.12

  • hmm might be an iOS8 thing, I'm not on 7, thanks!

  • Try going into Animoog and playing some notes, then back to the app you want to send midi from. They should register then.

  • Animoog 2.2.3 works for me to send out midi through its virtual midi port. It doesn't list an Animoog midi out port within Animoog, but other apps can see it if you select on of the listed ports. So for an app like NLog Pro you can select Animoog from within NLog or within Animoog you csn select NLog Pro. If you select Animoog from within NLog Pro but you have the midi out turned off in Animmog it won't play from Animoog, if you have any of the midi out ports within Animoog selected it will play NLog Pro.

Trying to setup the midi can be problematic as the app will boot you out and you may have to try this a couple of times before you can establish a solid midi connection within Audiobus 2.1.10 and iOS 8.2. There are definitely still some idiosyncrasies with iOS midi.

  • On my Animoog I can have other apps (sequencers) controlling it, but it won't send midi out, that is a paying upgrade.
The tape deck is the same story, unless you buy it, every time I use the free version I must re-register (requires registration)

  • Yes midi out is an IAP (currently $4.99 in the U.S.).

I had noticed something like that, where I saw "Animoog (Virtual)" listed in StepPolyArp. This may be the way it's setup now then, I guess. It's annoying for the sake of using multiple hardware controllers at once on Animoog. I want a somewhat "promiscuous" MIDI, to use a term seen here. Thanks for all the help!

And yes, I have the MIDI IAP.

I had the same issue long time ago. Contacted the dev and here's the answer:

    "Hi XXXX,

Sorry to hear about the trouble. Currently, the registration system is a bit finicky. We have discovered a bug whereby you must be connected to the internet in order for the 4 track to function. We will be addressing this in the next update.
As for your registration, I will have our firmware engineer manually register your copy from here. Once this is done, you should gain access to the 4 track.

    Cheers,

  • I was going to add that I've been having problems with Animoog recently: 4 track crashing the app to home screen when pressing record or some preset packs presets producing no sound until restoring purchases.

But then after installing ios 8.2 it's working perfectly (for now)
Coinicidence? or perhaps stability of ios is improving. ...

I don't have the MIDI out IAP, I like the idea of it but not sure how much I'd use it.... does it get much use from others here?

  • I use midi out mostly to layer Animoog sounds with Sunrizer and Alchemy, which can produce some awesome results!

  • I bought the IAP hoping I could play Animoog, have it sequence to Genome, then tweak it as it plays back from Genome.

I never got that far... Genome was too fiddly for this midiot.
