Good app to edit existing midi files?

Hello fine folks, really sorry if this has been touched upon already, but wondering what my best option would be as far as an app able to edit existing midi files?

More precisely, I have to change the channel on a sequence of notes. They were written on chanel 1, but need them to be on channel 10. Any info would be greatly appreciated as midi is not something I'm very fimiliar with.

Thanks!

  • I could try to do it for you on my DAW if you want to shoot me a PM.

  • MidiBridge will allow remapping without editing the file.

  • Pro Midi by VITALIY TARASYUK can be used to edit midi files and will import and export them.

  • Thanks a lot for the suggestions, had looked at midibridge, good to know you can do it with it. Will check out Pro Midi as well!

Thanks Coloobar! I'd love to be able to do it by myself though as i may have to change more than one file.

    Thanks folks.

  • Sounds like the new Roland Sound Canvas app will do this.

  • I don't think SC does any editing, aside from choosing the instrument, panning, reverb, level, and chorus.

  • @funjunkie27 Hmmm... perhaps #2 of the list on the App Store description page is a little too cryptically-worded - it suggested to me there were only two things it couldn't do, but another look at it seems to confirm what you say.

But of the things you say it might do above, would those be actual edits or just things you can change on the fly (like with bs-16i) after starting playback, which (at the end of MY day) are fairly useless features? Once the file is restarted it'll all play back as originally created, so what's the point? Edit the file on yet another prog to give one extra measures at the beginning to allow one time to change those parameters on the fly? Bah. I'm confused... or perhaps annoyed...

  • Further: If one is editing a MIDI file in another prog as I mentioned, why not just fix those parameters you mentioned and save to a new file, so that one doesn't have to alter parameters that won't stay changed? Or perhaps there is an area of MIDI file use that I've not been exposed to? Am I making any sense?

  • I'm not sure if there's a cc for reverb and chorus, but the others could be set within the midi file. You would need to do so in a midi editor though, since SC doesn't have editing capabilities. I'm with @Paulinko on Pro Midi as my preferred editor.

  • @funjunkie27 How was the learning curve for you on this (pro midi)?

  • Not too bad. Just need to understand the basic framework, and the rest was fairly intuitive for me.
