Is there a way to adjust note velocity in Genome? If not, what app do you recommend?
I read the online documentation, and tried to figure it out to no avail. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks!

Solved it by increasing my reading comprehension:
"To change the velocity of notes use the 'Vel' slider on the bottom left. Changing this will cause newly drawn notes to have this velocity. If you have notes selected, it will modify their velocity."
Works great. I can't recommend Genome enough. Once you "get it" it's really usable. It seems as complex as Different Drummer, for example, but it just needs a simple mind shift to understand.
But, buy Different Drummer, too. It's a great app.
You can also do this:
1) In the piano roll editor window, click the top left button (2 eighth notes).
2) Click the pen tool (bottom right button) and when prompted, select velocity.
3) draw your velocity on the piano roll window. Top of the window is maximum, bottom minimum.
Note you can also do this with other midi parameters, CC, etc using the bottom left button.
God I always shudder at Once you "get it" it's really usable. Convinced I am one of those at the back of the class who will never get it while the goodie two-shoes dance. Apart, of course, as regards those apps that I suddenly get and then wish to add every kind of encouragement to the boys at the back to come on forward and quickly...
I'm afraid I stepped out the back of the classroom on Genome. Maybe it's time to come back in.
Was thinking about Genome the other day, really liked the free version for some ambient jamming but i just picked up DD so giving that all my focus. Seem to remember watching the tutorial videos on Genome which explained it pretty well.
Let us know if you have questions on DD @musikmachine.
It does bother me that this app hasn't been updated since Feb 2013. Might be one of those ones that is better for you folks who held back on 7. Anyone know if there's been a rumor of an update or is it abandonware at this point?
Free version?
Genome is like riding a bike. Different Drummer is like flying a helicopter. Both worth it in their own ways.
The trick to genome is understanding each track has a set of patterns that can be turned on and off. That's it. When you understand that natively it becomes easy to use.
Different drummer is very complicated, mainly because you have to understand wave forms, ~and~ how they will interact rhythmically. Much deeper.
Genome is actually quite simple.
Both of these apps would appeal more to people who like to sequence, obviously
The developer is working on version 2.
It seems like it is mostly in-app instruments, which I actually don't really want. I want to be able to control other instruments, and I'd love a few more sophisticated pattern editing features.
However, I do understand that adding instruments makes it more appealing. Believe it or not, there literally are people who buy sequencers and ask "why can't I hear any sound". Also, you can just sketch something out quickly. I've found if I want to do a quick midi sketch, being able to do it all in Cubasis with those instruments will at least get me started.
I think it will make it more accessible, like Auxy.
Which apps are you using Genome to drive? Thanks.
I think v2 has been in the works for quite a while.
I retired Genome after Pro Midi happened to my iPad.
Thanks @johnfromberkeley for the insight/update/input. I am a keen bicyclist (but a dangerously lousy helicopter jockey . And the news that the developer is still tinkering/alive is important to me (and I guess anyone who's spending their latte money, especially as this is a couple of fancy coffees at that...)
Cheers funjunkie27!
@fjcblanco i was thinking of Gestrument, soz.
No problem.
Just get it MIDI Pattern Sequencer, a gift from my son.
Genome is a "desert island" app for me . I could do everything I want midi-wise on it, provided I have a daw and some synths to go with it
