  • Tempting. I have most stuff. Is this gonna add anything?

    Good for weird sound design?

    I'm in the same boat.

Number of apps / Time to play with = Infinite.

  • It's a unique app - I bought it on the day of release. If you're a fan of old analogue synths it's an essential purchase, though unlikely it'll be your 'go to' killer bass synth

  • This is one of the best apps sound and design-wise.
Not easy, but well worth even the retail $$. There is a better manual on the net for it (hardware version).
You can get lost tweaking and experimenting and it takes samples-loops to further manipulate...

It is one of the apps that exceeded my expectations.
    A masterpiece in my opinion...YMMV;-)

  • IVCS3 gives you unpredictability, surprising textures and drone-like sounds that may not form the core of your music but could bring extra 'spice'. Like @monzo I bought this app on day one. An app recreation of my dream hardware synth (and one that I will probably never get to play in the flesh ), there was never any doubt that I would buy this. And I wasn't disappointed! I don't play it every day, or even every week, but it's a great source of new ideas. It can be difficult to work with but that is part of its charm.

I found some links to the in-app purchase preset libraries that may help you decide whether this synth is right for you and your music:

  • Under the dust is an ebook or presets?

  • I am tempted to buy this app! just scared! It seems to me the best drone and bass synth engine!

  • I won a promo code of that beast a while ago but except crazy noises (and best starting screen) there was no use for me. Not being a synth guy anyway.
The new video series from Digital Jeepny revealed it to me now I may become a synth guy :D Yeah, I agree -killer bass, masterpiece, extra spice...

It's one of those 'value for money' apps. You could not buy the hardware version unless you had a lot of thousands of pounds under your mattress, and a friend has been on the waiting list for a new one for several years. It's not a made-up synth like Animoog - this is a faithful recreation of a real synth, and the only way most of us will get to play a VCS3.

It glitches on my iPad 2 but I don't care, the developer deserves every penny he makes from it and more. Even though it hasn't found it's way into much of my music I've had hours of fun mucking about with it. If you're a synth head it's essential.

    Presets, well worth the money.

  • @Kaikoo It's a preset library by Sinapsya. You can buy for 2,99€ in the shop.

ABSOLUTELY, for that you won't be disappointed and you can record your tweaks directly into iVCS3
As a sampler it manipulates sound, via the synth part, there is a demo (i think) with a "Won't get fooled again" loop

  • It's got a very good 'Dark side of the moon' patch as well...

  • It is incredible and unique sound once you get your head vaguely around what does what. You can actually make some really rich analog sounding bass and lead patches out if it. No brainer for $10 when a real one would cost you $15-20k

  • Just never felt a need for this one, but not only that, Synthmaster and Aria pro are on the way so I have to save for those.

Hazel scares me a little, but in that 'just tell me what to do and I will walk through the gates of Hell with you' way.

  • @JohnnyGoodyear Oh my god, her voice! "Go realy crazy with it" ... I go everywhere :)
No need but I wonder if she can sing...

HaHa! This is why I am chicken shit off this synth because of her!

  • Just Bought it! Dang good! Too crazy and loving the bass and melody of analog sweeping. Never regreat.

  • This synth is one of the most fun for the exploratory aspects. It has a great spring reverb that I want to use with everything. I quite like running external samples through it and admiring whatever odd sound comes out.

I wouldn't consider this synth on its "usefulness" if your definition is how much of that synth you'd use on final recordings. You may actually get a lot of use in that way. To me, the real value of this synth is more just in exploring odd depths of possibility that won't be found in comparative apps.

+1 Truly! I admire the lemurized iVCS3, I will have good fun with any arp or sequencer with. The vcs3 pdf manual is very readable for me. I think taming this synth is a kind of personal joy that is the beauty, even for beginning amateurs. It takes me few months to decide to buy it because I am afraid of it being go dust.

  • I love this app, but it does require time and patience so I don't open it as often as I'd like. I plan to get some kind of hardware controller to map the knobs and joystick to to so I can explore it more fully. Not many apps actually inspire you to get a hardware controller specifically to control it, but this one does...it's that deep.

  • I was looking for a synth to use with Soundscaper for drones and sound fx, this is it in spades.

  • for such a meticulously designed synth.....the spelling within the app could do with some work...;)
