What would the next Korg Gadget be called?
Love the forum, everybody. Thank you all for helping me to learn so much. While reading the fascinating thread in people's favourite gadgets, I found it funny that someone mistakenly called Salzburg Stuttgart. It struck me that Stuttgart would also be a cool gadget name: I imagine it being a collection of baroque instruments: viols, harpsichords and the like....
Another thought then struck me and it's one I'd be interested to hear other people's ideas: if you could wave a magic wand to create another gadget, what would it do - and more importantly- what City would you name it after?
After mulling it over, I think I'd like a collection of ethnic instruments and loops: everything from a muezzin wail to a didgeridoo, Irish uileann pipes and Flamenco cajon.
I'd call it Perth, though I've no idea why!
Anyone else?
Comments
Battersea
Catford
Peckham
Brixton
Clapham (mainly percussive)
What? Not likely? South London waystations of the upperwardly mobile or congenitally disreputable?
Oh.
Amazed there isn't a Zurich.
Jersey and it would be a pure cowbell gadget.
Cricklewood¶
Putney¶
Barking¶
Woolwich Arsenal¶
It would be a swinette simulator and perhaps some U S southern local would be best suited, maybe call it the Carolina or maybe the Alabama
Surprised JGY, or others, haven't mentioned Austin.
Could other app manufacturers also make Gadgets? Could Korg themselves, even, for it is they, make iMS-20 a Gadget?
Fresno
Budokan, Bangalore, Malta
Detroit - a heavy kick drum synth with a big compressor and distortion section
Athens - a granular synthesizer/sampler with lots of editable features
Lhasa!
Of the suggestions so far, I'm going with Fresno and something involving the Scoobie Van. As for you Mister @funjunkie27, believe me, Austin doesn't need any more hype
SXSW is already causing the locals to stay indoors and keep the blinds closed and it hasn't really gotten going yet. If they want to go the hipster route I hope its Brooklyn or Portland.
Detroit, New Orleans, Seattle, San Franciso, and Nashville are all examples of cities with distinctive musical cultures which could be made into Gadgets with more diversity than the keyboard and EDM type synths in Gadget now.
Course, we're probably being too Americentric. Paris, Munich, Cali, Kinshasa, Mumbai, Shanghai, Moscow, Rio, Sydney or Timbuktu perhaps? I'd fancy Reykjavik, but the marketing department say it's too hard to spell...
Portland: makes ironic bird sounds.
It would be nice if Gadget had more third party developers to create modules so it could incorporate more types of music in terms of rhythm, scale, timbre, and vocals.
There's enough sounds already, I'd like to see some audio effects gadgets, complete with assignable X/P pads. This would be also need the additional feature of sending sounds to these effects, obviously.
I'd also like to see some midi effects gadgets, or midi controller gadgets (or whatever you want to call them), that made it easier to play Gadget.
I have no idea what these gadgets would be called, as I'm not exactly a worldly jet setter. I don't know, Australia hasn't been taken yet has it? Or what about New Zealand?
NJ turnpike, useful for slowdown effects.
Istanbul -- oriental strings synthesizer
Durban -- world percussion gadget
Honolulu. Slack string guitar, ukulele, pa'hu drums...relaxes me just to think about it.![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
Littlehampton effects train: sound goes in on a Sunday and doesn't come out for another four hours.
Manchester - a monotonous drone gadget. Always on full volume![;) ;)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/wink.png)
Mumbai - too busy interface but capable of surprisingly rich and beautiful textures
Cardiff - you're forever fighting with it but keep going back for a good time
A Detroit, with various samples including gunshot sounds.
Hereford
Latin stuff like Sevilla, Sao Paolo, Juarez, Lisboa...
It must be called STOCKHOLM!
Why? Is'nt so that Sweden is a big part of the electronic/popular music business today (and has been for 15-20 years)?
In Sweden we have the great companys Propellerheads, Nord Keyboards, Electron (synthesizers), Softtube, XLN Audio (Addictive software suite), ToonTracks (Superior Drummer, EZ software), Auxy software (iOS) etc. Etc...
Stockholm, it has to be the new superduper Synth for Korgs gadget!
Atlanta - it could freeze up for very little reason..say an inch of snow.
Magonia. It would only be perceptible to certain sensitive users. Very otherworldly sounds but they would never be audible upon rendering.
Bangkok - a gender changing effect for the voice
Seoul - perfect name for a beautiful sounding gadget
Phuket - something about the way this rolls off the tongue, pleases my inner man child, would have to be something random
Kraków - very few big cities names can combine comedy and very serious connotations in one word, would go with a fantastic fx gadget
Thebes - for a magic psychedelic space harp, in the colours of the blue lotus
Kraków +1
