iPad audio to PC sound card
Maybe it is something you all know, but I got no idea how to connect the headphone output from iPad to my PC's sound card.
The sound card is RME9632 PCI with breakout cables.
How can it be done, what do I need? The least expensive and most portable.
Thanks in advance, sometimes my head feels like a "coconut in a vise" after few hours with headphones...

I think you are wanting a "Y" cable. One end has the small headphone plug(1/8" trs male) and the other end splits into two plugs that are either RCA or 1/4" phone jacks. Also referred to as guitar plugs. You can get these at any electronics store like Radio Shack or Best Buy here in the states or...
I use these (attached pic) but then depends on your soundcard. I'm currently using a Desktop Konnekt 6. This cable was pretty cheap from amazon.
A 3.5 mm to 3.5 mm cable into the blue hole of your soundcard or try with a behringer UCA those are cheap and portable
^ all that stuff will work. When you get it hooked up, experiment a bit with the levels of both your ipad's headphone out and your soundcards pre amp. I find that around ~5 (ipad) sounds best with my focusrite and around ~7 sounds best with my mixer.
Thanks, I'll give it a try :-)
Is there anyway to do the opposite, to route the signal from the soundcard to the iPad and send it to audiobus? I have considered Airfoil but its not supported yet.
Kind regards
I would go the StudioMux route to avoid additional AD/DA conversions.

This.
Also @Anze i think you can only input mono signal through the headphone plug. But if mono signal is enough, you dont need to maintain the quality of the sound as original, you dont use daw with it(to use studiomux) and you need to keep the ipad separate from computer for some reason. There are simple adapters that can convert signal to one cord type to suitable for ipads headphone out/mic in plugin thing. Irig2 for example the basic guitar cord to it, but there are some cheaper ones on ebay and since they are just simple adapters essentially with no preamps, the quality doesent matter much at all. Or then get a audio interface like steinberg ur22 mkii to get stereo in and higher quality overall.
Results vary depending on your iPad. On my Air1 I get a lot of drop outs and glitches.
never mind conversion (loss) with a RME HDSP9632 - it's flawless and you won't notice any difference at all. Even if you repeat it a couple of times.
On my ipad air2 never had any of those
Yah I have heard Air2 and up is solid.
