Comp'ing multiple takes.
Got this from musictech.net. I'm interested in how you all do this. Like techniques that may not be mentioned below, it seems when I have done this in the past, recently, I spend a lot of time trying to make the different parts of different takes fit together smoothly and seamlessly. It seems like more trouble than it's worth at times,
Comp Your Parts
In recent years, DAWs have got very good at comp’ing, which is the process of combining several takes into one perfect take. Imagine you are playing or singing a part and go around it in a loop, recording four or five versions. You might like your playing on the first half of the second take and the second half of the fourth. By comp’ing the take together and with careful use of fades – often done automatically, depending on your DAW – you can fairly easily create the perfect take in a few minutes. There is often an option to then bounce the take to a new file, making it permanent.

Camping is great, but it takes a lot longer than a few minutes to get the perfect comp, it usually takes longer than just re recording the whole thing properly. Cubasis makes comping very easy, just set your loop points and record, it will record all takes on one track then when your done all you have to do is drag each take to its own track
Hmm. Thanks for the reply. I thought that may be the case as far as it taking longer than a re record, or maybe a punch in. I have Auria, not Cubasis.
And although camping is great comping is better, lol, autocorrect LMFAO
I havn't tried it in Auria but it may work the same way
My memory's fading, but I believe there was some mention of this going into Loopy Masterpiece. Thanks to my skill level, it's something I use often and is one of the reasons why I always end up back on a DAW to do the heavy lifting. It will be some time before devices have the file space to handle the mess that this Pandora's box opens up.
I don't think Auria allows camping.
I have Logic Express 9 on the iMac, and comping works quickly and easily. I would assume Logic Pro X works just as well. Track down a video, and you'll see how elegant it is. Not sure about how other desktop DAWs handle it.
I've never seen anything on iOS that works like this, but I'm guessing we will eventually have it. Selfishly, hoping it gets added to Auria Pro eventually, but for now it's one of those features that makes using both iOS and Desktop the way to go.
THAT's why Auria Pro won't be out until spring. It all suddenly makes sense ...
More seriously... Over at the Auria forum, Rim has talked about including comping but it probably won't be in the initial release of Auria Pro. I am looking forward to it.
I've done rudimentary comping in Auria by having multiple tracks muted and slicing, dragging, dropping onto the final track. But, yes, looking forward to that being in Pro eventually too.
