Egoist iOS version question

Does any knowledgeable soul have the iOS version of Egoist and the desktop version ? and are they much the same ?

I'm looking at the desktop version demo and I think it's really cool and I'd like to know if the iOS version has the same functionality.
cheers

  • @Igneous1 Sorry, can't help, but would be interested to know what kind of price you can get the desktop version for...

  • Cheers anyway,

Looks like 99 dollars / euros from their site. The iOS version is £22.99. I'm not being mean, I'm just trying to amass the apps that I will more than likely use a fair bit.

  • The iOS version is too slow to be useful on my iPad 3, and the controls are too fiddly without a stylus, IMO. I look forward to using it again when I update the tablet. I don't have the desktop version, but I suspect the controls may be a bit easier to use with a mouse, since it was a straight up port. I believe they have a demo, so give it a go. Also, they periodically have half-off sales around certain holidays, so don't pay full price if you can wait.

Yes, same functionality. Their apps are basically 1-to-1 ports, for better or worse. The difference is workflow and price. You can get samples in easier on computer, obviously, but the last update of iOS version helped narrow that difference with Dropbox compatibility. And ditto what @aaronpc said about difference in mouse vs. touchscreen (I don't think it's too bad on iPad, but taste may vary), and his point on sales ... Plugin Boutique often has sales too.

  • Egoist runs pretty well on my ipad2, not had any issues. wasnt running anything along side it though, just AB to BM2

  • Thanks for the replies. I bought it and it is the same as the desktop demo - apart from I can't find the comb filter on the iOS version.
Works very well on my Air - great app, app is almost too small a word for it !

On the effects page of ios version egoist , upper left conner sits cutoff and reso; then you press the type button, you will find "comb" filter there! hope this help.

It is the best loop slicer on iPad so far, I only wish there is a recording utility to input sounds. It can be definetely improving it to be great app.

I have no issues with performance on iPad Air and I find it really easy to use on touchscreen without stylus.

This app is one of the few I just keep coming back to, along with samplr, animoog, fm4, gadget & thumbjam.

I forgot to tell you, you can consider "Strom" app which can record your audio sample inside the app, It is another best slicer. Combining it with Effectrix of sugar bytes can be lots of fun!

  • Thanks, I knew where the combfilter was, it was just not loading when I pressed on the icon - fat fingers I guess :)

To reiterate, the iOS version cost £22.99 and the Desktop costs 99 euros (about £78 + VAT ?), thats quite a difference , for what is the same thing (apart from the vst integration) !

  • @Igneous1 - that's the wonder of iOS music :).

Or at least one of the wonders...

  • I'm thinking of buying this tonight, seams like a cool app for playing around with loops. I need an app to reignite my iOS music making, fingers crossed this will be it.

  • Egoist is a top notch app. In my top 5. It allows you to implement non-harmonic transitions and rhythm templates. Along with slicing, it is essentially a sequencer along with a mini-built in Effectrix. It also includes a rudimentary drum machine. It is not a mere tool, more an independent instrument. An entire creation could be composed start to finish.

Along with this, it truly pushes creativity by working in its parameters. I recommend spending a minute using it alone as a stand alone app. Complete a whole song.

Then take it to the bus.

  • Just bought and playing around for an hour......its a lot of fun:)

Me too - works pretty well without any glitches, which is remarkable for such a powerful app.

  • no crash at all!
