Can you import MIDI files into Krog's Gadget?

Hello everyone. I wanted to know if you can import a MIDI file into Gadget.

  • Who is that Krog?Brother of killer croc?Joking aside,no you can't.

Seems like an oversight, even if there was a sixteen bar limit...

  • You have to play each part into gadget live. So... no.

But to be honest, depending on how long and complex your midi files are - I've never minded playing the file out in, say Pro Midi and hitting record in Gadget. It's actually easier than going through all the midi file import procedure in Bm2 or Nanostudio.

    Bummer .. Thanks.

@Matt You've got a good point. Plus playing the song puts an original touch.

  • It depends what you call importing ?

On my side, I often play short midi sequences in Cubasis while Gadget is synchronized to Cubasis clock and I can easily 'record' the midi from Cubase to Gadget... Perfectly synch and nice to use complex classical phrases that I would not be able to play myself LOL...

    Hope this helps.

  • Nice...

Where do you get your complex classical phrases from @ElGregoLoco... if you don't mind me asking?

I Get them from royalty free midi files websites... Just google "Royalty Free Midi Files" and you should be fine ;-)

  • Thanks - appreciate the answer - a year later :) :)

Now I need to think of another question that I'll need to know the answer to in March 2017 :)

  • belly laugh!! :)

  • Sorry, just to say I didn't mean that sarcastically. Just being playful.

  • @Matt_Fletcher_2000 I'm sure you've already been down this alleyway and out the other side, but I fell into playing/recording Fingertip MIDI via Module into a big empty chunk of Gadget tonight. Worked well. Yes, editing of course required (because you can) but for those who haven't yet, def. worth a noodle....

@JohnnyGoodyear I really like fingertip midi. Great for jamming melodies along to a set chord progression.

The one thing I don't like is that since they updated it I can't find a way to sync the quantisation to the tempo of Gadget (or anything else). Not even by ear, since you can't elect to start the clock of fingertip midi.

    Unless you got round this?

  • One year later is better than never I guess... ;-)

  • Fun Fact: The name of the first Atomic Bomb was Gadget.

    Never mind I stand corrected.
