Akai EIE PRO

Hi.

Was thinking about getting the EIE PRO but have read a few disgruntled forum posts here and there with regards to drivers.

Is there anybody here using it with Mavericks? I have noticed that AKAI released drivers for Mavericks, are they any good?

  • I hear of more issues with that soundcard lately that any other from my clients. I know that's not a definitive answer to your question, but it does seem to be one of the more problematic soundcard these days.

  • @midlife I think I heard people on the forum saying that the PRO version isn't class compliant. Not a problem if you can install drivers but it rules out using it with any iOS device. Maybe someone else can provide more info..?

  • The PRO (silver one) is not class compliant and will not work with iOS.

The non-PRO (red one) is class compliant and is a great interface. No issues here.

  • I bought the red one about eight weeks ago, to sit on my writing desk. It's replaced a lot of clutter, which means I can leave it set up, which means I use my gear more.

  • Agreed...the red model has been great for me, although it is only 16 bit.

  • Redface rocks my pad solid baby. Woah, I just had a 70's flashback. The only issue I am having is trying to manage the MIDI Din ports for my hardware synths. Hoping for an app to do this soon.

  • I'm using a Kawai Mav-8 for Midi/DIN management. They're no longer being made, but you could probably find one on eBay for <$50.

You may be right. I may have to use a hardware midi manager, but I'm hoping some app will or already does have this feature.

  • @Martygras - have you looked into iMidiPatchBay?

Not yet, but now it's next to check out. Thanks. Been busy learning MidiDesigner 12.

Update: Nice. Layout looks very clean. Must not dip into iTunes money set aside for AuriaPro though.

Update 2: $12.99 and there are IAP's for functions that should be part of the basic package. Still, looks like it might be able to do the job as long as it will address the MIDI Din ports.

  • MidiBridge can see the EIEs DIN ports and has been a great tool for me.

  • Yeah, MidiBridge is the original, but it also isn't getting updated. The gui is kinda rough. imidipatchbay seems like the front runner currently.

  • What exactly are you looking for with managing the DIN devices @Martygras?

I need to be able to route notes/pgm chg/cc's (from a USB keyboard and EWI) to some rack synths.

  • Akai EIE red faced used here with full joy.

  • iMidiPatchBay allows up to four masters (controllers or synths) to multi (not sure how many external (sound sources) devices, so that should do the trick @Martygras, although the CCs might be limited.

But it doesn't need updating coz it works......

  • I think there must be a lot of IPad users on eBay. Red ones seem to fetch more 2nd hand than silver ones

  • Akai doesn't seem to know how to market their products very well.

  • Love my little red box. Who couldn't love something called an EIEIO?

  • I like that I don't have to be afraid that I am going to rip a knob off if I turn it too fast. Very sturdy build. My only complaint is that there are only 2 meters.
