iRig products - 30 pins - lightning - problem
Hi,
I am thinking about buying the iPad Air 2. I now have the iPad 3. I have iRig Keys and iRig Midi (both 30 pins connection with my iPad 3). The Air has Lightning connector.
To connect these iRig products to the Air, I think I need something like this:
Apple MD823ZM/A Lightning naar 30-pins adapter - http://www.bax-shop.nl/lightning-adapter/apple-md823zm/a-lightning-naar-30-pins-adapter/product-details.html
(Apple store in US: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD823ZM/A/lightning-to-30-pin-adapter )
Costs: 28 Euro (about 30 US Dollar).
- Will this adapter do the job?
- Are there cheaper/other/better solutions? My guess is : no.
- There is also an adapter on the market with a cable, that costs 38 Euro. Is it better than the adapter-only?
I don't put a cover around my iPad.

I use an iPad 3 and an Air 1. I use the short cable lightning to 30 pin Apple adapter which will do what you want it to do. So will an adapter without the cable, it's your choice depending on your needs. I have used a cheap Chinese knockoff in the past with no problems, but most everyone says that's a bad idea. If you can afford Apple, go Apple.
You can also get a lightning cable from IK, but it's not cheap. That doesn't help you with the irig midi though.
For my irig keys I use the 30 pin with an iPad touch but for my iPad Air I use the lightning CCK and a micro USB cable. It works great and I needed the cck anyway. I think I got 2 of them on eBay for about $12 each back when I got them.
I just upgraded to Air 2 from iPad 2. I'm using my 30 pin Apogee Jam and and an iRig midi with the Apple lightening to 30 pin adapter (no cable attached). Works perfectly.
Thx for all the replies!
@supanorton: thx for reply! Happy to hear that the iRig Midi works well with the no cable adapter. I think I will buy that adapter when I upgrade to Air 2. Now I only need to get mentally ready to spend 700 Euro's for the Air 2 128 Gb - the best option in my view, considering that I am always struggling with the 3 with 32 GB.
I am on a iPad Air 1 and have same IK Multi Media stuff as above -- I use iRig keys with lightning to USB adapter. Works fine.
I'm a sucker & gave IK $30 for the lightning cable.
you either give IK $30 for their connector or you give Apple $30 for the Camera connector.
