Rock Drum Machine, Auria, and IIA Transport
I just purchased Rock Drum Machine and Auria to record some demos and ideas.
Maybe I'm missing something about using RDM as an IAA plugin. For some reason, the IIA transport doesn't show up in RDM when launching it from Auria. The clocks, BPM, and position don't appear to work either. Is this a bug, or did I miss a setup step?
So far, I'm shocked at how great both tools are. Rock Drum Machine is perfect for song writing. It's important to create drum parts that match the song. Doing this with 'standard' drum machines is easy, but sounds mechanical. RDM is the only thing I've found that lets me specify an exact starting point, then 'jams' on the basic pattern to sound like a live drummer. Nothing beats RDM for crafting natural sounding drum parts!
If I can get this working, it will be the perfect 'songwriting studio' setup!

Yeah, I didn't see them either. I don't know if they were there before though. I usually use it via Audiobus, but I don't remember if it had them before the latest RDM update.
Maybe using Audiobus instead of IAA will solve my problem. Will connecting via AB sync up BPM, clock, and song position?
I can live without the transport control as long as RDM and Auria are time/beat aligned.
I tried using Audiobus to feed Rock Drum Machine into Auria. No matter how I tried to start the recording, Rock Drum machine reported an error, and no audio was recorded. I have Auria configured for Audiobus mode.
Could you give a step by step description of how you do it?
It would be really nice if Rock Drum Machine supported the IAA transport control as IAA defines it. It's not really IAA compatible (and not useable) without synchronization. I hope this is a minor issue that can be remedied in the next update. Otherwise, I'll have to use DrumPerfect, which is much more labor intensive.
I think Luis is working the midi clock stuff for RDM for a future update. As it is right now, you have to basically record your song in RDM as song mode then playback and record the stereo out into Auria for further processing.
Thanks. That is what I'm doing now. Unfortunately, I'll have to trim the recording to start at time 'zero', then hope there isn't any significant BPM mismatches.
Does Louis hang out here? Know what would be really cool? The option to copy the entire song to the clipboard as a MIDI file. That would enable us to get 99% there with song mode, then tweak the midi to perfection.
It would also make Rock Drum Machine a must have tool for computer DAW users as well. I prefer RDMs approach over the drummer in Logic Pro, as I have more control over jams/fills. I'm picky about such stuff, so that's a HIGH compliment.
