    maybe I gave it the wrong buzzwords;
we are talking about pressure sensitive ipads that give real haptic feedback!
this is not the shake your hand vibrate thing you know from playstations ...

real feeling haptic feedback of buttons, faders, keyboards on your screen, drumpads

press harder to hit it harder, move a little around and feel the button next to it without having to look

    totally blows my mind!

  • My guess is that while I may be the dumbest kid in the class, there are a few others here in the back row going haptic? as well....

    watch, you'll get the idea

  • Haptics is an under-used technology. Many years ago I wanted to try and build a haptic feedback glove to “push back” when my hand or finger approached and touched a virtual thing, to simulate it being real. I got as far as getting too many arduinos, and a significant amount of tiny vibe motors, then stopped at the point where I’d had to learn to be a computer programmer.

  • It does look very interesting, I'm thinking about mapping controls to a synth or giving x-y pads a third dimension, saw another interesting thing apple worked on a few years back that made the rounds on the tech blogs, was rumoured to be coming out with the ipad 3, where the screen would raise slightly depending on what was displayed, was very rudimentary, would love to see all these things on future ipads, make them more expressive as instruments.

  • Android will be first, right? ;)

It does look very interesting. If it does come, it would need to have the option to easily turn it off, so it didn't freak me out. Or if I didn't need the ability to feel, the things on my screen.

I imagine this would be a very popular upgrade path for "those kind of folk" who choose to view porn on their iPad, God forbid!

  • Synth buttons and when you've reached the min/max of a slider/pot are some simple ones.

Being able to feel the lines between the notes in @sonosaurus's apps like thumbjam would help me with playing the same thing twice for sure!

i only pointed out the obvious things
im pretty sure that things can go pretty wild - see what apple did in the imovie update
    welcome to the future :)

  • Buzz at zero crossings.

What do you mean regarding iMovie?

My intuition suggests that haptics and supersonic haptics in combination with microfluidics could dynamically alter the feel of a surface from a frictionless gloss to a paper-rough surface to a very noisy rocky sandy gritty surface, to a highly sticky resistant custardy wet squelch.

  • Want. But I'll make myself attain mastery of more apps before I allow myself to throw more $$$ at another iPad.

one more thing (or two) wink wink

apple has a patent on the texture stuff now

wow, together with an aluminum-ion battery ...

omfg, the future will be insanely great

but they should really fix the stereo image of the on board sound on ipads NOW

whats the point of having two speakers if they are both on the same (short) side &_&

  • I sincerely hope not. Otherwise they'll break something again. Remember Jack of all trades?
