Is Audiobus too ambitious ?

  • First-rate teasing. Can't imagine what would get a happy rise out of The Brethren (non-gender-intended-collective noun alert etc) more than the direction of as yet unreleased code. I also can't imagine what would cause a more 'end of days' caterwauling down in the weeds than yep they sold it to The Corps... :)

My only other guess is that you are going to have a joke competition, but personally I don't recommend that as some of the forum members have proven to be very poor losers

It wouldn't be the first time.

  • I have to say I find Audiobus to pretty hit and miss. It's great when it works, but it seems rather flaky at times - depending on the apps used. Currently on an Air / iOS 8.2.

    As I'm just discovering now.....

'Random' is the way I'd describe it...'unusable' is another....

Are you guys using just one simple pipeline (like back in the pre 2.0 era) when problems occur or mostly multi setups/pipelines with state saving etc?

I don't have the multi-channel IAP (since my ipad2 wouldn't have been able to make the most of it anyway) yet, so just synth + effect + output. Sometimes I'll add an effect and everything stops working, apps have 'error' on the icons, or things work fine. It all seems to be completely random.

  • It's hit and miss for me, i tend to shy away from using and just do basic stuff like recording into AS.

@Crabman i i've just started to use multis and saved a few setups recently and when i reload them they don't work, some apps stay greyed out or don't output audio and it's really frustrating.

  • Seems to be an iOS 8 issue, Audiobus works perfectly on my iOS 7 iPad 2.

  • Roll on 8.3 I guess....

Okay Thank you all for the feedback, It is now obvious that quite a few of you do in fact have the same issues that I brought up in this thread. I was starting to think my first generation iPad air was uniquely hostile towards Audiobus, and now having read your posts multiple times it appears that Audiobus is not really to blame, but for some reason when used in combination with OS 8- 8.2 the problems happen and interestingly most of those who said they had similar issues appear to be using the iPad air like myself.
So all I can say is sorry for doubting the ability of Audiobus to keep up with the latest and greatest wizzbang Apps, It would have been nice to know that I was not alone with this problem these last 5 months or so, but it is considerably less irritating now that I know we can expect this to be fixed at some point in the future.

I'm on 8.1.1 but just had notification of the update. Are you using an Air 2? Sounds like updating to 8.2 isn't going to help.

Audiobus seemed a bit more stable this morning, maybe the restart helped, but everything falls apart if I add a second input. I was going to buy the IAP, but I guess there isn't any point now.

  • Just tried again and was able to load up three inputs, through an effect into GarageBand. No issues. Even swapped effects on the fly without a problem. I have absolutely no idea what's going on here - it all seems to be working perfectly now, I'll test it again later to see if it's still behaving.

  • Monzo, No I am on the first generation iPad air. I believe the general consensus was that nothing got worse with the 8.2 update for IOS musicians but then again nobody discovered any improvements as far as I know. the Audiobus IAP is great when it works.

Ah ok, so not an Air 2 specific issue then. If AB continues to behave itself then I might hold off updating until 8.3 comes out. Really weird how one minute AB won't work with 2 inputs, but ten minutes later it can handle 3. Strange. I think I'll give the IAP a go later.
