Another audio option iOS to Mac Audre.io

Got notified of this update. Seems interesting. I like the fact they utilized a plugin on the Mac.

  • Leaves Bitwig users out....but I've been having good results with Music IO.

  • WiFi..? Dunno about that, at least not for live performance.

  • It should work via lightning too, from the site...

"You can always use a cable if wireless is not your thing."

  • I wonder how to also implement sending MIDI data as well. Also Audre.io mentions some kinda conversion for different sample rates, so I wonder if that means it will upconvert 44.1K to let's say 48K or 88.2K etc.

  • (J.C. from Audreio)
aleyas & CSwinn, you can indeed use cables for connections. If DAW to DAW it would go via Ethernet. If iOS to DAW or DAW to iOS it would go via the device's lightning cable.
@Holiday, if you are sending from iOS @ 44.1KHz to a session that's at 48KHz or 88.2KHz, it will indeed up convert to the receiver's session sample rate.

So there shouldn't be an issue sending MIDI via let's say Midimux and then audio via Audreio?

This may work out good for me as I don't have to record at 44.1K, then export, then import/upconvert. Less steps. Though I do not know the quality differences of how upconverting is handled by different software.

  • @CSwinn time for a TSTR round-up/shoot out of all of the new iOS<—>desktop options? We would all benefit from your methodical style.

Before I plunk down more cash (I already have Music IO, Midimux/Audiomux) I'm hoping someone here gives Audreio a go (preferably wired for best results) and reports back. Audiomux is not yet working on 10.7 OSX and Music IO requires Soundflower and thus requires some switching of inputs if I want to also use my hardware synths via my audio interface. Too I like the idea of having upconversion direct so I don't need to record (so either via AudioShare or in my DAW) then import into a new session which will most likely be 88.2K.

*Edit: Just read some fine print. The AU plugin is 64bit and my Mac is still running 32bit (though it may be able to run 64bit plugins by some weird grey zone my processor sits at) which may mean I cannot use the plugin. Also the audio stream is 16bit which is poorer quality than what I can get with Music IO or if I chose to record in AudioShare and export.

  • Just noticed this idea @syrupcore. I'll see what this Mac version is all about and maybe do an "all in one" video for a change. They do have kind of varied workflows.

Don't think I'll ever tell someone to pick one over the other though, different strokes and all that...

  • A video (or a playlist?) that showed all of the options would be perfect. And maybe a table on the site (accompanying the video) like a feature/workflow comparison chart? A table would help random Googlers find it too.
