Quality app update bonanza:

Just recently, we have had an incredible string of updates: different drummer, TC – 11, borderlands granular, genome midi sequencer, and now elastic drums.

These applications are creative and unique. They couldn't exist on other platforms.

I just have to applaud these great developers. What an amazing batch of updates to hit practically all at once. In spite of all of these issues with iOS 8, etc., I just have to say the things we can do on these iPads are incredible compared to my TRS 80 color computer!

  • One of the perks of winter hibernation..

  • I'll add to the virtual applause as well. Great job to all these devs!

  • Idensity 2.0 also in the works. Great work and thanks to all the awesome devs!

Magnificent March Madness, for mad hatters and those mad about apps two thousand and fifteen.

Quite catchy if I don't say so myself.

  • Erm, you know, March, er, madness?

I agree! i was thinking the same thing last night while playing around with recording iSound Canvas into AudioShare via Audiobus. TRS-80, whoa going wayyyy back. I still have a TRS-80 Model 100 portable that still works:) It is the Ipad's Great-Great Grandfather. I also have an Apple Newton, the Ipad's Grandfather:)

ios8.3 would not be unwelcome but yeah recently i've been blown away by the quality of apps i've bought and stuff that's being released.

TRS 80? Wow you are really going back John from Berkley! I remember the color and the black & white models from my childhood. I don't remember if they were capable of generating music.

  • OK I'm looking for something a little non traditional for inspiration. So I was looking at Samplr and Borderlands. Any preference? Other suggestions?

  • Both, they have this nice other worldly sound for me, also nodebeat hd is nice for evolving ambient textures, bebot has got a ton of character and can be very musical, also virtual ans goes from harsh to sublime, sliver might also be worth a look, check out a few videos of them to see if they interest you.

Yep! Here's the page from the manual. I used to sit there typing note values in for hours!

  • I'd love a Gadget update...

  • @Matt_Fletcher_2000 One of the constituent factors of our success as a species is how quickly we can move from gratitude for the old to wishing for the new :) BUT i agree with you. For me (me, me) I would be thrilled with a simple increase in sample length, what would be your Number One choice?

Jonny, You talk a lot of astro physics. I like your George Michael stuff! Hehe When are you going to trun back the clock?

@Kaikoo I have almost no idea what you mean, but I like the way you say it. I guess you've got to have faith :)

  • Wondering what are you doing today? How are You? Have you come up anything from Borderlands?

  • edited April 2015

@Kaikoo Borderlands is very interesting to me (of course :). I like this idea of zooming in on samples and it seems to lead to being able to control more carefully the odd and often cool disruptive sounds. So, yes, today I have a 'song' layout from Elastic Drums which is well-organized but a little flat so I'm thinking of marrying it if possible with some subtle madness from Borderlands; will be a good experiment/test.

I am taking the comment from @xen to heart from the top here:

and trying to focus on the whole of a piece, not just the easy parts and this is a good place to work on that I think. Especially because although it is the very beginning of April, I have foolishly agreed to write a country song for the Song of the Month club and now the reality of doing something very different (singing! cowboys!) and somehow more disciplined might keep me awake at night unless I start making some progress sooner rather than later.

Apart from that, I have a long walk planned with a friend who I am trying to persuade to play guitar (on the country song) and then later I have a tennis match booked with a man who is much better than me unless I remember to keep hitting to his backhand :)

Probably should do some work somewhere in there also. Life does intrude, for which I am grateful :)

What's for dinner at your house today?

  • As regards more updates, I see Xynthesizr has also released an update with some new functionality....

  • You certainly keep on good shape! Very active!
My house dinner is BBQ beef with rice from nearby takeaway. I prefer to cook Bir Curry on my own!

I am not musician like you, just have some fun with iPad synth. Because I am going to manage a curry restaurent at Taipei. I envy you all to let music set you free!

April is the time for "Modstep" to be out! I am waiting it.

  • Well, if you like BBQ put Austin on your list (there's some pretty god music here too :). Maybe we can do a swap, I'm somewhat fond of curry myself....don't know about 'Modstep', but will look out for it.

  • Atlanta holds their own for BBQ as well. Maybe we need an iOS Music/BBQ event somewhere....just do the iOS music side first, so our screens don't get greasy.

Best BBQ I ever ate was in Kansas City, but being a Londoner the bar in my barbq might not be too high...

  • @Kaikoo What is the name of your curry restaurant? I might be in Taipei this summer.

Erm, some kind of audio track functionality. I guess very long or infinite sample length limits would kind of fulfil that - although a proper audio track would be better. Right now its impossible to bring a jam on another app like borderlands or samplr into Gadget without tons of chopping up and sticking back work (and clicks).

Next would be more / better FX. I want to be able to HP/LP filter and EQ and delay every single gadget without it using up my in gadget effects.

How about you? Best possible feature they could add?

Thank you! I said I am going! I will assure you asap! Still need location preparation for opening. It is true British curry taste! Including charcoal tandoori dishes!

  • British Curry Taste! Band name of the day for sure....

@Matt_Fletcher_2000 You've got it covered: Audio and effects. In that order for me. I know there are ways round it/endless playing etc but I'd find it convenient if you could run to at least 32 bars (64 better) as well... BUT, I'm happy with Gadget and wish I were as equally so with a few other players....
