Jamup Pro : changing preset via midi
Hi all,
I'd like to know if there's a way to change presets in Jamup Pro via midi BUT without using an external controller or pedalboard.
What I'd like to do is :
1- playing a track in Auria or directly in Jamup (I don't own Cubasis, and don't want to buy it... I'm waiting for Auria pro.)
2- Sending CC midi messages to Jamup at certain points, based on the tempo. For exemple : sending CC11 at bar 20, then sending CC10 at bar 35, etc.
Can a sequencer like "MIDI Pattern Sequencer" help me ?
Thks

....Well, it seems that Jamup isn't "virtual midi" compatible, so the answer to my question should be : no
EDIT : JamUp IS "virtual midi" compatible, and the answer to my question IS definitely YES !
This is an interesting question. I've never heard of setting midi commands to trigger "hands free" at certain points...seems logical. Can this happen in our iOS world? How does one MIDIot accomplish such an exotic task?
Works with Pro Midi.
Nothing "exotic" here
I just want to change presets at certain points of a song, without using an external pedalboard which I don't have and don't want to buy.
Yesterday, I bought MIDI Pattern Sequencer (seems to be a quite powerful little app), and in fact, it IS possible to change presets (and lots of other parameters) in JamUp Pro and ToneStack... BUT, I have lots of difficulties to understand how everything works for the moment
I can't manage to simply switch from one preset to another using CC or Program Change messages and the MIDI Pattern Sequencer's manual doesn't help me to work things out...
You can use Set List Maker (with an in
-app purchase) to send a midi patch for JamUp. This way you can get your FX based on the song you're playing in Set List Maker. So, I'm sure you can do this with other apps, it's just a matter of the support of the appropriate midi messages on both apps.
I believe according to JamUp's help it only applies to patches A1-D4 (midi pc 0-15). I haven't tried anything beyond that.

Thanks @funjunkie27 !
@Gratouilli you underestimate how much of a midiot I am! It's a whole new world of possibilities for me! Thanks
In fact, I want to change presets more than one time per song. Not sure Set List Maker allows this (for what I've understood).
I'm still trying to understand how MIDI Pattern Sequencer works, and I'm FAR from success ! Even if this app seems to be powerful, I think the learning curve is beyond my possibilities... I should have bought Pro Midi as @funjunkie27 adviced...
It was fairly easy with Pro Midi. I just set two controllers (CC10 and 11) on the same clip to flip to a specific value at a specific measure in the song. Worked just as I had expected. I played around with MPS, and it seems it's possible, but I couldn't figure out how to do it in ten minutes which is past my ADD threshold.
I've nearly spent 10 hours ! Read 3 times the complete manual on the dev's blog... but still can't figure out how this thing really works !
The song I chose to make my test is 99 bars long and I simply don't understand how to pass the 16th bar in MPS... even in "song mode"...
You might want to look at Pro Midi. Ten hours should be enough to justify the cost.
You're right ! but I've just figured out how to build a song containing up to 256 bars !
In fact, this app is more than a midi sequencer... it's also a incredible puzzle game !
I haven't looked into any limits on the number of measures. Are you saying it's working over 256 measures??
I think a song can be up to 256 measures long, on 8 tracks, using an unlimited amount of patterns that can be up to 16 measures long (as we can import patterns from multiple projects).
Definitely, MPS is powerful... hard to understand (for me at least), but powerful for sure.
Are you attempting to do this for a live scenario, or just looking for a way to automate JamUp params during recording?
Essentially for "live" recording, and more precisely for cover recording.
Well, I've picked up Pro Midi, and effectively, it seems much easier to understand than MPS, but... is it me or Pro Midi can't sync to Auria ?!
In MPS, I've finally managed to switch to previous or next preset using CCs, but couldn't find a way to jump from say preset 1 to preset 12 directly...
Jumping from one preset to another seems possible in Pro Midi, using CC in edit mode with the "blue pencil", but if it really can't sync to Auria, then it is of no use for me...
I've gotten PM to sync to Auria. You need to go into Auria's settings screen, choose Midi, then ensure it is sending clock to PM. In PM's main screen, make sure Auria is enabled as a connection, and it is receiving a clock from Auria. Open the PM project that has the cc's set for JamUp Pro and ensure the tempo (top center of the screen) is set to Ext.
@funjunkie27 : Thanks a lot for your help . Effectively, now I can sync PM to Auria, but I think I'm going to give up using both PM and MPS because I just can't figure out, if it's even possible (?), to simply send Program Changes from either of the two to Jamup (or Tonestack).
Using CCs isn't a good solution because it doesn't allow to simply jump from one preset to another if these presets are not following one another : clearly, switching from preset 1 to preset 2 then back to preset 1 is easy, but switching from preset 4 to preset 10 then to preset 2 is just impossible because using CCs implies that Jamup would "slide" from preset 4 to preset 5, 6, 7, until it reaches preset 10 creating a muddy noise... it's unusable... Perhaps Auria Pro will allow to simply send Program Change messages at chosen points ?... I hope so...
According to the JamUp user manual...
http://www.positivegrid.com/jamup-help/
it does accept PC messages and it details which patch triggers with the various PC messages. Pro Midi will send PC too. I haven't had a chance to test it, but that might do the trick.
I'm progressing... like a baby snail, but I'm progressing. So, I've finally found the way to set up a "preset map" using PM... I've totally given up with MPS for which I think I'm going to ask for a refund (really TO hard to understand for me)...
The trick is that PC are "attached" to patterns, and not messages we have to "draw" within the patterns... That was my mistake... So I just need to create as many patterns as I need PC in the song, set the PC for each pattern according to the preset number I want, then, using the black arrows in the pattern edit window, set the lengh of every part of the song... this way, I can jump happily from any preset to another in Jamup !
So @funjunkie27 : thanks again for making me buy PM !
No worries @Gratouilli....I hope you get to where you want to go!
