A new drumpad controller for iOS devices. Looks rugged and has an interesting layout. I noticed in the video there is a near unacceptable latency when he hits the pads. There is no delay when he talks so it is only the drum. This latency could be due to not optimizing the setting. It only outputs midi after its signal is processed by its own app. I would probably add this to my arsenal if it was under a hundred bucks.
Drummers are going to immediately want a footpedal attachment just like the Korg Wavedrums. They're still trying to hack and "circuit bend" the Wavedrums. I also think there should have been an actual mount instead of relying on snare stands, again just like the Wavedrums.
Latency doesn't look so bad here:
Alternate Mode (makers of DrumKAT) are involved.
I see Wavedrum Globals on eBay for under $400 new now one of those might pair up nicely with a Jambe
Well, if they were to send me one, I would do a video review with both sticks and fingers to show how it responds.
I don't know if it would fill any gaps I have. Currently I have a Trapkat, Roland Handsonic HPD-10, HPD-15, TD-9, Pad-8 Octapad, Korg Wavedrum Oriental and a bunch of real percussion. I'm definitely willing to give it a try though.
I don't have any kind of drum setup in hardware other than a wooden desk (for Impaktor of course) and the Mandala drum that I bought off of eBay. Was thinking of a Nord Drum 2 + Nord Pad combo before I saw this.
Great move by the Jambe to choose Alternate Mode (maker of TrapKat, drumKat, etc.) as their partner. 1000 levels of pressure vs. MIDI's 128 levels is bound to make a huge difference.
I had a Handsonic HPD-15. Fun instrument for its time.
Maybe you could answer this for me...is there a noticeable difference in pad quality and response between the Roland SPD-30 Octapad and the SPD-SX?
Other than the shape and interesting-yet-irregular layout, I don't see what separates this from other similarly priced, battle tested percussion controllers. Some in the same price range even have (very good) built in sounds.
This Jambe uses sensors...not piezos like most every other percussion controller. It scans something like 1000x per second or something like that...I'm in on the Kickstarter...hope it funds...most expressive controller I've ever seen...
Thanks. I totally missed that.
Good insight. Fingers crossed and keeps us informed as to progress
I don't own either, but have tried both in store. They are very similar in pad feel (bounce), but the dynamic sensitivity was better on the SPD-30. It was a little more realistic in responding to dynamics.
Thanks for the insight!
