Hi, I would like to introduce my Tracks on Soundcloud...
I'm trying to get some nice tracks done and would aporeciate any tips/comments. Thank you in advance!
Comments
Sorry here's a link to one of my tracks (called "I-OS-Music"):
Strangely calming. Good mix. Now, if you could just get the singer to sing in the same key as the song...
Thanks for the comment! Yes - I spoke the sentence into Audioshare and did not pay attention to the key of it afterwards in Gadget - was my first attempt with some voice in a track - good point!
Cool chillout song. I like the melodies and your choice of sounds. So you used Gadget to make it? And other apps?
Yes - the newer ones are all made with Gadget - sadly without Module - bought it once but returned it cause of some trouble in Gadget, which has been resolved now.
I've recorded the voice for "i-OS Music" with Audioshare and imported it into Bilbao.
Does anybody know, how I can buy an app again, after returning it once? It does not seem possible - real bummer.
I would really appreciate your opinion on my other tracks. Feel free to take a look at my Soundcloud-Page: https://soundcloud.com/search?q=beatschlumpf
Great job! I really like the melodies and the sounds you picked for your songs.
I noticed you tagged you songs in the Trance genre which is not something I'm familiar with. My only suggestion is that you shorten the time it takes to get to the peak of the song. For example I like Racetime but it takes a minute and 22 seconds to get to the fast part. But take my opinion with a grain of salt because I'm not familiar with Trance music.
iOS Music, Broken Morning, and New Edge are my favorites. You did a great job producing your songs with Gadget. How long did it take you to finish the tracks?
Many thanks for your constructive feedback!
Yes - getting the right structure and dynamics of a song is something i have to learn over time. It seems somewhat half-baked and not really thought out - but I feel a little progress with my newer ones.
I have to admit, that I can't concentrate that long on a "project" - so most songs are finished in under 30 (perhaps 60) minutes - but it is more easy to develop techniques for me this way for now, I think.
Gadget is really a masterpiece for quickly making a track out of an idea and playing around with different approaches. But I definitively want to put more planing and time into future productions.
I think Gadget is not only brilliant because of the fluid workflow but also cause of it's "Gadget Cloud" which is obviously highly fluctuated and grants some plays and sometimes even a little feedback, which can be very motivating without any doubt.
That's impressive that it only took 30-60 min for each track. The melodies and sound are great. Did you enter any notes by hand with the step sequencer or did you play everything with the keyboard?
Gadget makes it really easy to get some nice melody-lines in no time. With the adjustable scales only the "right" keys are visible on the instrument-keyboards. So I'm playing around a little before till I get something melodic, which suits to the rest of the track and hack it in with the on-screen keyboard, with metronome on.
Sequencer-wise - I really would prefer a piano-roll style editor, but the workflow, nice GUI and - and of course "Gadget Cloud" - are compensating this drawback for me very well.
I'd love to use Cubasis in conjunction with Effectrix and nice virtual instruments but this affords a lot more organisation and planing and gets really fast frustrating - for me at least.
@Beatschlumpf Good effort. Reminds me somehow more of Auxy than Gadget, but who cares; the song's the thing. Keep at it.
Thanks! Yea - it's all about expressing mood and feeling, I think. Nice, that today's even "non native musicians" like me can do this.
@Beatschlumpf I agree with what you are saying about the frustration when trying to use a DAW with apps through AudioBus and IAA. You've got crashes, sync issues, etc. This forum is great resource for getting around those hurdles. There are a lot of knowledgable people here and they are nice enough to give beginners like me a hand. :-)
@mkell424 This forum is really a great resource of information for music-making with I-OS - could't agree more!
I've made a new track yesterday and it seems to get not much love. I really enjoyed making it and had the impression, it is my best attempt, to create something, that grooves somewhat. Admitted, I was a little bit euphoric about this, but it seems to be only me.
What I've found, after hearing it again, is that the break in the middle of the track should be half that long.
Perhaps you could comment on it and tell me what you think/what you would change? Many thanks in advance!
@Beatschlumpf It's a tidy track. From my own viewpoint the more well-organized and 'logical' a track is (however competent) the more I wish for words/vocals on it. Also, personally, I don't love the synth lead sound, it feels a little pedestrian or dated to my ears. Everyone's got taste
@JohnnyGoodyear Thanks for commenting! I think, I see what you mean, regarding the synth. It does not seem to fit nicely into the more mellow rest of the track. Yea - I wish I could sing a bit.
I like this one better than the other one you shared. I'm no expert, but I don't know if I'd change anything. I guess the lead synth sound maybe could be changed. I do really like the guitar effect that pops in every once in a while. It adds jsut enough to the track.
@High5denied Thanks for taking a listen into my other tracks! I also think, all in all it's my best attempt so far. Hopefully, somedays I'm able, to add a real guitar-track to my music. But even now, with my current capabilities it's a hell of fun and each small step forward gives a very good feeling.
I actually dig the retro lead synth sound. I think it works well with the laid back bass and rhythm section and sits nicely on top of your mix. And you can sing. Everyone can. It's just a matter of finding out what style/approach(es) best suit your voice. Huey Lewis made a lot of money in the 80s with a pretty bland-sounding 1 octave range. Bob Dylan, Tom Waits ... Just find what works for you and your music and go for it, I say.
As for breaks, I tend to think of momentum and look at what some other artists do with their breakdowns for inspiration. Although I might steer clear of the Amen Break on this particular track
Actually I was kidding about the voice. It works in this context anyways. I'm kind of a smart ass... a lot.
@eustressor Thank you for taking a listen and your nice words about singing! I would really love to put some voice into my tracks.
@Martygras Oh dear - and I brabbled "I-OS Music" into my guitar-tuner the whole night, in order to hit the right key, until neighbors were complaining!
Now that's what I call rock and roll!
Yes - they should be glad, that I don't have a saxophone!
