Bias FX
So..... Would this Negate the need for JamUp then? Not sure what to think about this. I love importing amps into JamUp, it really gives me everything I need. What will this do for me that I don't already do?
Comments
I would be more inclined to support any further Positive Grid apps when they decide to update Final Touch. Until then I'm on a hunger strike.
Agreed. They make good apps. Quality sound. Except, FT seems to be a bit under par. And yes, needs to be updated yesterday.
Neat! Now I might actually consider buying Bias for the desktop.
I've signed up too. I'm curious to see if, as it's possible and excellent in Tonestack, this new tool will allow to use as many effects as we want (need ?) in any order and placement in the chain...
I have found Positive Grid to be a money hungry bunch, while also very good at promoting their products.
Why don't they do the right thing and just fix up the generic sounding effects in jam-up. It is a simple fact that those effects require a hell of a lot of improvement before they will ever sound as good as Tonestack. The reason they are creating a new product is that we will be required to buy a new App, all the effects and packs all over again. as I said as far as I am concerned they are a greedy company and I will never give them another cent until they become a bit more considerate of their customers
I have basically all of the major guitar apps, but have been stepping away from iPhone playing for a bit to play with some combo amps and pedals. But if/when I get the urge to record anything, that is infinitely easier for me to do on iPad vs. PC, especially with the ability to add synths, drums, bass, etc. with other apps. So I'll be back.
So, I missed this one until I saw this thread. This is an effects suite? So I wonder if this will be built-in (as an IAP) to existing BIAS, or if it is a standalone app. If it's the latter, I'd be dumb to even try it on iPad2 - my device can barely handle BIAS itself, let alone BIAS + BIAS effects app in AudioBus.
Positive Grid does offer some of the best quality stuff, and I actually think their effects in JamUp are quite good. With real physical guitar pedals, it's often the case that dirt pedals are the easiest to produce and clone, whereas complex modulation, reverb, etc. is more difficult. With digital, I think it's exactly the opposite. The amp models themselves are often quite good, but the addition of an overdrive or distortion pedal in front of them is pretty inconsistent. Either the pedals sound "thinner" than their real-life counterparts, or the gain structure behaves weirdly.
Definitely interested to see what this is and how it is implemented, though.
I agree StormJH1. I prefer the distortion and overdrive pedals in JamUp and Bias hands down to any other guitar app. Amp one and Overloud are pretty good as well. It is easier than getting a kid to try candy for me to dial in a rock or metal tone with PG apps. TO much fiddling with the others, to arrive at a sub-par distortion sound.
The effects in ToneStack are second to none. If I need something different, I use that.
From PG:
"BIAS FX will be a separate plugin and app, and you will be able to integrate BIAS amps (including amp match) into BIAS FX."
I think that Positive Grid (and Yonac also, with ToneStack) have done a respectable amount of work on improving their guitar apps. It should be noted that JamUp is (or at least was when I bought it) offered as a fully functional free app with a limited palette of amps/effects to try out. I'm pretty sure you had the ability to play the free version and even record through AudioBus without even giving them a dime.
So if they offer that as an initial option, I really have a problem calling them "money hungry" no matter how many hundreds of dollars of IAP's they make available. I've bought most of their content, and thought it was all pretty good - they are on 50% off sale all the time, and nobody is putting a gun to my head to make me buy additional amps or effects.
I thought that recent effects pack that had the Fulltone OCD ("SAB Driver"?) and the Micro Amp+ helped a lot - a lot of those distortion pedals are extremely trebley, even the "metal" based ones.
Funny how Amplitube isn't even part of this conversation.
Yup.
I should clarify that my gripe isn't that Positive Grid hasn't marched forward and innovated a plenty. Sure they have. What I'm specifically complaining about is the fact that I paid a King's ransom for Final Touch (comparatively speaking to other apps) and shelved it nearly immediately as something I wasn't going to use as happens far too often. But another thing that also happens often is that I'll watch a video later on where someone *smart showcases said app and a lightbulb goes off for me. This happened with Final Touch about three weeks before the iOS update that made it stop working. Could you say that it's my fault? Sure you could, but you'd be a jerk and I'd likely never speak of you kindly in a public setting again.
Well said...Ditto........
I was a beta tester on final touch. I'm quite disappointed with the app and never use it. I haven't touched it in a while, but it was so hard to get files in and out and you couldn't edit or do fades, which is a huge omission in a "mastering suite." Why dither to 16 bit if you have to then open it in another app and edit/fade? Maybe I don't get it, that's possible. But it seems to have fallen off the radar.
Jamup pro sounds good to me, but I've really gotten away from iOS for playing bass, I bought a zoom b1on that is really easy to use and sounds great. No setup of anything with it, just plug it in and my iPad is free to do other things. But, I do like jamup when I use it.
Positive Grid was always helpful in email support, etc. I don't think money hungry is accurate, but I do wish they'd not drop development on final touch in favor of moving to new app development. There's another company that makes a habit of that and you know how that works out. But, Bias was a huge step forward (keep in mind jamup is pretty old in iOS terms) for amp modeling on the platform, I'd expect the bias effects to also sound excellent.
Also well said. I have always had PG be very helpful and fast at replying to email support as well.
