Different Drummer for me the majority of the time (that's why I selected Other.)
Pretty much anything but DD for me. Everything I've heard sounds "plodding" and out of time.
No problem for me, but I almost always use grid mode. I can see where that might be more of an issue in non-grid mode.
Grid mode was added only after I questioned the developer's secretive use of Digital Performer's quantize function to correct DD's imperfections in the demo tracks that he released, but I still haven't tried it. Maybe if he sends me a promo I'll give it a chance.
Play by hand, record everything to audio.
I've tried Genome and Beatmaker, found Genome easiest to use (outside of Gadget).
If it's a simple enough riff, I like playing via on screen keys in apps like Addictive, Alchemy, Sunrizer, FM4
Missing xynthesizer and MTS.
I don't prefer it at all but I still seem to have the best luck with beatmaker 2. I prefer promidi though so I picked it. If it's just one synth, it's usually midiSequencer.
ProMidi is the closest to what I want but it has some very annoying negatives.
When was this? I've been using for quite some time and it has had grid mode for a long time now.
2013 when it was first released and the dev was charging $199.
It's changed a lot since then.
Cubasis and StepPolyArp...Cubasis is more important but SPA more fun.But that will all change when Auria Pro arrives. So i did not choose an option
When I use Cubasis I struggle to get more than one synth playing without crackles and pops (ipad4, 7.2).
Yah, the app looks like it's grown into a legitimate contender, but I still haven't heard any demos that suit my personal taste.
Many of my SC uploads involve DD..

I'm sure it isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I hope you find something of interest. I can imagine the bad taste left if you spent that much on DD, but the dev has pulled the price in to a more realistic price point since then too.
Thanks for the link, I'll check it out. Whatever criticisms I raised with the dev when the app was released were dealt with, so kudos to him for that.
I'm pretty sure my answer will change once Auria Pro drops
The dev has been great imo. Very responsive and probably more updates than any other dev I know of. I hadn't heard anything before about him editing material to compensate for the app's inherent problems, and I hope it isn't true. In any case, the app is now a very powerful tool.
I selected other, because I do most of my sequencing on the Octatrack or Monomachine, and it didn't feel right to select an option like a computer. I'm sure there's plenty of people using MPCs or Electribes or other hardware to sequence their iOS synths.
Of course, you could debate that those devices are also computers, and you wouldn't be wrong, but the distinction comes in how you interface with it.
Usually changes every week, I've been using the Pc lately.
A combination of playing by hand, Cubasis and also Gadget when I'm using that.
Have any of you guys seen the Patterson-Gimlin footage of Auria Pro? Mind-blowing stuff.
@rhcball Source!?!
Am prepared to be blown etc.
I don't know. The recording was pretty jerky, it's hard to make out what it really is.
As amazing as the midi sequencing may be in the Auria update, is it not possible that such an app will take up even more resources than it already requires? How many synths will you be able to sequence simultaneously, even on the latest ipad?
Don't let the rain on the Auria parade. I'm currently all about reducing footprint and maximising the number of synths I can have at any one time on my ipad 4. Hence Pro Midi rather than Cubasis and hence my recent foray into cheapside synths. According to a theory I just made up, cheaper synths will use fewer resources. Of course, the acid test is loading time (another theory of mine).
On my ipad 4 I can only use iSEM on its own, which I'm happy to do because I love its sound. But now I want to see how the other half lives, and I want to see how many of them can live together.
Mixture of SPA, ProMidi, Auxy and then different 'playing' apps like Poly, TC-Data, Thumbjam. In fact I kind of 'play' StepPolyArp on it's keyboard rather than really using it as a sequencer.
I do more live playing through 'smart' midi controllers than sequencing really. Any sequencing tends to get done directly in Gadget.
Cubasis has been rock solid for me.
Hi M4C, do you often have more than one iOS synth being sequenced in Cubasis? Which synths?
Just to be clear, I posted one item several years ago and told people I recorded a DD improv into Performer as Midi which is a legit use of DD. I don't have any rules about how software can be used for artistic purposes and I certainly don't want anybody to think I've ever misled anyone regarding DD. The fact is you'd spend a week programming what took me 7 minutes to create (IF you could think it up)...which is all drums in this experimental bit:
So, I take it you won't be sending me that promo code. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
