About to get a gen 2 iPad mini

Thanks in advance.

I had it before the Air 2.It`s a fine device, has enough power even for more complex sessions.Basically the same like Air 1.But i have to say after one year of small screen i was very happy to get the bigger ipad screen back.
I really enjoy mine. 32G and almost exclusively used for music...aside from some word games and general browsing.
I have the mini retina, it's a great device, but I will definitely be getting an upgrade to a full size one eventually (but I'll still keep the mini to use in parallel)
It's not great on the eye strain, but very convenient when travelling around.
Performance is good and hopefully will only improve as they optimise ios 8
Wished I got a 64GB is the only regret.
I use a mini Retina 64GB specifically for music - yes. I find the smaller screen not to be an issue. I have other full-size iPads as well and while I appreciate the larger screen size on those, I have begun to find them bulky. There are a few apps that are more fiddly on a mini Retina - like Thesys - but even then I can still manage with them OK.
The speed of the mini Retina is a 0.1 GHz under the Air 1 (See the wiki page for spec comparisons) and it has a slightly different color palette - but in performance terms is otherwise pretty much the same as the Air 1.

This... All of this
Though the Mini is easier to hold and is a little more portable I decided on the Air for screen size. Even with the larger screen I find the controls on some music making apps a little challenging. I don't have big sausage fingers either. On the Mini it would have been worse. However price per processing power is also a consideration to which the Mini may be a better value. I plan on getting a touchpen of sorts as well as midi map what I can to a control when I'm not out and about.
Thanks guys. I have an air. But this will be a second device for use as a midi controller with TC data and maybe mastering tracks with Auria because I've run out of space on my air!
All the advice much appreciated.
The notion that iPad mini retina has the same power as iPad Air is a common misconception. I've tested them side by side and mini retina lags behind. Could be due to the fact that it has marginally less ram, I don't know. I think smaller size other than better for portability is also great as it is easier to conceal within your set up. I generally feel a little uneasy using a computer on stage so the smaller the better for me. Still Air 1 is the only device that works for me right now as it is the only one still on 7.1.2
It doesn't have less Ram.The only difference is 100Mhz more Power for the Air 1 (1,3 vs 1,4 Ghz dual core).
Pushing slightly more pixels than the airs, 326ppi vs 264ppi although the same resolution at 2048x1536, I've read the colour reproduction isn't as good on the mini v2, compared to the airs.
I look forward to your 87 track MIDI-synced gadget session's output. Will also be nice to be able to keep something like ProMIDI up on one the target app up on the other.
Well I got it. Bit extravagant but there we are.
£250 inc postage on eBay for a 64GB version. Seemed ok.
I'll try my best @syrupcore. TC Data controlling Gadget made this the current object of desire in my life .
The plan is to daisy chain together with old fashion midi leads so I can push midi from
the mini to the full sized air via a cable with no disernable latency.
It does have marginally less ram. There is a thread about it somewhere on this forum if you can be asked to dig. I personally don't like the new search otherwise I'd dig it up for you. Anyhow the difference wasn't very big.
You made me really curious now I never read about this before and from the specs both ipads have 1 GB Ram.Can you remember a technical explanation for this?
Well if you have an Air and wanted a second iPad and was budget conscious I would say Mini 2nd Gen is a no brainer. Mind you these days you could pick up an older used or refurbished Macbook for less and it would do more.
Thanks @holiday I have an MacBook actually. But rarely use it for music.
