Modstep first impressions.
I'm in the beta for Modstep. I still haven't tested everything out and some features are pending but overall I think it's a great MIDI controller/sequencer with lots of potential. I got it triggering iOS synths, synths in Ableton and my external hardware like my Microkorg XL. I can do this simultaneously too with different MIDI channels with no issues. I do however have problems with DM-1 and Beathawk, cannot seem to trigger them but I sent feedback to the devs so hopefully it will be worked out. Step sequencer and piano roll and apparently chord function coming soon. Anywho, still in beta and their are some kinks to work out but I think this will be a great app once released.

Patiently waiting for this - looks great so far! I've been holding off on Genome and Auxy midi IAP cause I think Modstep will be better...any idea of release? Thought I read April somewhere...
Well, I think there are a few things they need to tune up, a few things they should add, and some features I know are currently being worked on (quantization for example). Depends upon how fast they work or what they have already accomplished and soon to release. It's pretty intricate. Like I think it can do whatever I could set up Ableton to do with MIDI.
They released a couple videos a week ago - it looks like its ready for release by those. Piano roll and step seq looks like they've been implemented. I really hope this comes out soon. I like the fact that it runs on older ios versions - since I'm stuck on 7.0.2 and still not ready to update to 8.
I want to buy it and enjoy it and wash out the bad taste from my mouth that was put there by MiDigenerator.
In what sense did it give you a bad taste in the mouth? As far as I can see after a short play if you programme the various banks appropriately it could be a pretty powerful tool.
I can't see that Modstep is going to be a magic bean that will instantly make anyone a musician either.

I couldn't agree more. I was very keen to use it but none of the menu options along the top of the app work for me. I emailed the developer a few times and got no response, so I'm not sure if it's an ios 7.2 issue or what.
Although playing with only one-quarter (?) of the app was quite interesting, I feel like I've done my dough.
Hmmmmmm just loaded midi generator onto iPad 3 with iOS 7. See what you mean and the developers web page is unavailable because it exceeded it data quota.
Still look on the bright side, it will be waiting for you when you do get iOS 8
Ha. I think I've decided that this iPad will stay on 7.2 for its life with me.
