Midi apps on iPhone?

Can anyone recommend some good midi tools for iPhone? I found an app called Arpist, which looks decent, but I haven't gotten it to work with anything yet.

I'm looking for stuff like Genome, mSequncer and StepPolyArp, which I have on iPad.

  • Best MIDI sequencer on iPhone imo is Beatmaker 2

Gestrument on iPhone is a neat MIDI Controller, same with Arpeggionome

  • Can Beatmaker 2 sequence external instruments?

    Xynthesizr

Yep, it can do internal instruments or external MIDI

  • I've actually had Beatmaker for a long time, but have never been able to make heads or tails of it. Maybe it's time to dig in. Thanks!

Arpist is pretty good and does work, but you have to have a synth app to drive it.

  • Little Midi Machine is a solid light-weight option as well.

  • Not to forget ThumbJam as a MIDI controller either ...

  • Good stuff. I use BM2 on the phone for song-style app sequencing.

Just to note that funkbox also has a single track 'bass line' midi out. If you're already using funkbox it's very handy. You can do a lot of damage with FB, LMM and xynthesizer on an iPhone.

  • LMM;DL'd

    I have Thumbjam

    Will look into Funkbox

    Thanks!

  • Here's a list of apps that are iPhone/Universal with some type of MIDI support. There's going to be synths as well in these lists, not just sequencers, but you can see some options.

    Universal MIDI search

  • @cswinn that's awesome. It's missing almost every app suggested in this thread though!

  • StepPolyArp is universal, great on the iPhone, and you already have it!

Unfortunately, this is not true. SPA is for iPad only. (The same developer's ChordPolyPad works on both.)

  • Yamaha's Mobile Music Sequencer is in the midi clip/pattern vein of Genome, but is pretty bloated imho. It occasionally has been free.

  • And I forgot Robotic Drums. I love that thing.

One persons bloated is another's fully featured ......

I totally agree. The features are great, but the sounds leave something to be desired and take up a lot of space on a phone.

Of course, sorry about that. Was thinking of CPP!

Agree the sounds aren't that wonderful. But it has midi out and IAA audio so not that much of a problem.

    I've fixed that. :)

300 apps right now, and so many more to go. I'm sure there's plenty I'm missing still, but I'll get to 'em!

And plus one for Little Midi Machine, great app for a freebie.

  • You are a machine.

  • Didn't realize the Yamaha app had MIDI out. You guys are tempting me to reinstall.

Yeah, that's definitely worth the UI goofiness. I think it's also like 250 mbs, which is too big for me on my phone. It's also kind of hard to use it on my 5s.

  • If only SPA was universal!

    @CSwinn Thanks for that list!
