Anybody Heard any news on Guitarism?

one of my fav apps

Comments

  • It's been pretty quiet in Guitarism land...

  • This app is pretty content where it is at. Maybe the only thing that would be cool would be, being able to choose which chords are on the screen for playing.

  • And midi in.

  • I get more mileage out of Guitarism than iFretless Gtr - all the FX combos are pretty nice for my meager needs.

  • IFretless=iStrumless.

But it is nice for fingering.

  • well Rhism has midi in on his roadmap, I wonder if we are there yet?

  • Midi in is all it needs to be perfect!.........my fav apps seem to be like that...... Orphion love it to death and it will be perfection when it's got midi in............Samplr needs mo midi.... It's kind of weird almost all of the great apps don't have complete midi.... I wish all the developers would do like Sugarbytes and bite the midi bullet judiciously !

  • Hey guys, haven't been on here in a while but someone just emailed me and pointed me to this thread. Flattered that you're still talking about my little app!

The state of things is that I've had very little time to be able to put into Guitarism lately, particularly given the kind of revenue it's making (BTW changing it from freemium to fully-paid last Oct dropped my revenue by 65% - maybe useful to other devs around here). I think at this point it mainly needs the addition of custom chords and MIDI In to be truly 'complete' - there's a ton of extra things I'd like to add beyond that but those are perks on top.

Recently I've started trying to make a new music app to get the creative juices flowing again. It's very different kind of work to build anew vs adding to an existing thing, I'm able to do a lot more in a short amount of time. Still iterating on the interface for that but let's see what becomes of it :) I do want to go back and do custom chords and MIDI In on Guitarism, but taking this detour to try to spark some creativity back in the system. Stay tuned!

  • Glad that you are still around - best if luck to you, Guitarism is definitely a "keeper"!

  • Yes! Keep working on Guitarism! It's the standard against which everything else is compared particularly in terms of its playability.

Over at Unstringed.com I try to review all the latest Guitar iOS releases but to date nothing has beaten Guitarism . Some have interesting features, some even 'do' more, but Guitarism is still the best experience. As Rhism states there's still room for development ... MIDI in, dynamics and a way to play scales/solos ... so I hope he doesn't quit yet!!

  • Good to see you back in the forum @Rhism. Interested to see what you're working on.

  • @Rhism - looking forward to this new app!

Hey @Rhism, still talking about (and) using this great app! :-)

I have a small request to add (If possible) to any future updates:

(Anywhere) or just below the area where the chords are switched on (fretboard), is it possible to have a note area so I/we can type in a chord progression, for following or writing songs?
It's the one thing I miss from this app. :)
If it can be done or not, either way it's all good..

    Cheer!

    Great App!

  • @Rhism "BTW changing it from freemium to fully-paid last Oct dropped my revenue by 65% "

hmm.... So, I bought this app years ago, I can't remember what I paid for it? So it was a paid app, but now it's free, I know I bought the IAP's too. All very much worth it, if not more. It's quite the little app.

I'm just being a bit nosey, and trying to understand this. Is the drop in revenue because the app is relying more on IAP's instead of being a paid app?

  • Great to see you here and to hear that those updates are in our futures Rhism.... Nobody forgets the great apps, I use guitarism all of the time.

  • @Rhism I am selfishly pleased that we don't have to pay a per use charge, as if some kind of royalty for popularity, but be assured that your efforts are still enjoyed and used on a daily basis...

  • Nice to see you posting Adil! I agree with the crowd: Guitarism remains a king.

Agreed! Of the few apps I'm keeping permanently on my iPhone 5 Guitarism is one of them.

  • @High5denied Actually the other way round - when it was relying on IAPs it had 3x the revenue as it does now that it's a straight-up paid app.

@ltf3 A way to play scales/notes is kinda the holy grail :) Let's see who can crack that nut first. iShred and Pearl Guitar have interesting approaches but IMO still room for something better.

Glad to see this forum is still as awesome as ever!

  • Was using Guitarism with AAS GS-2 on my desktop, killer combo!

  • Hey Rhism, I just wanted to pipe up and state that for me, Guitarism is the whole reason I use an iPad. It's a great app, and if you ever stopped supporting it, I'd probably stop using an ipad. :-)

MY NAME IS JOHNNY GOODYEAR AND I APPROVE THIS EMOTIONAL BLACKMAIL!

  • @Rhism What are some of the ideas you have for your new app? Will it be guitar related or something else?

  • edited May 2015

Pearl Guitar is abandoned now I thought? I had not even heard of it when someone here mentioned it was free so I picked it up and was highly impressed. I wish it had updates once again. Not yet tried guitarist but will give it a look.

  • Rhism, good to hear from you. I am a little late to the party (as is my habit) but I wanted to chime in and remind you of my hope for velocity (dynamic control). Also, I am likely to purchase any strum based app you produce. So if you DO ever make the Guitarism Composer for iPad like you mentioned some time back, I would surely snap it up... in other words give me a way to pay you more money! (As you ave time of course, heh)
