Music IO: MIDI over USB -- free for a limited time

We've got an new version of Music IO -- which only supports MIDI. This is free for a limited time, so if you've been wanting to try things out, now would be a good time to give it a go. It sends MIDI in both directions between iOS and OS X, using an ordinary USB sync cable.

And we've also updated the combined audio and MIDI app. Four stereo tracks in both directions, along with AU and VST plug-ins to make it easy to integrate iOS synths and effects into DAW tracks. Here's a video that Dan (one of the co-developers) did using his rig. I'll try to get a video demo with some guitar playing together in the next day or two.

Thanks! Not yet in spanish store.

  • Just installed the new update 1.30. Works great, especially with higher sampling rates. Had only crackling before. Also very responsive support.

  • works great on hackintosh.

MIDI over USB is already a big step. Together with audio, in the same app, this is fantastic.

  • Much appreciated the free midi ver. @SoundBaseDesign.

  • If I have the original Music IO, is there any advantage gained by also having this one (i.e. faster if I'm just doing midi)?

  • Great, can't wait for the windows version

  • @Osidenick -- if you've got the full version, no need for the MIDI-only one. The performance for MIDI should be identical, and they both use the same Mac server.

  • Great, thanks! Just watched the video for the FX loop. This is really taking iPad to a new level.

  • Windows version please?

  • Actually I see a use case for running both Music IO and MidiMux together, but with a need to choose one or the other Audio solution. And (I haven't tried this yet) would iOS have an issue with two audio interfaces at the same time?
