Any tips for recording into Auria?

I created a lovely tune in Gadget earlier, so recorded it live into Auria, and on playback it sounded only half as good as the original. I'm using the default settings with record latency at 256 and default 44100 sample rate.

I'm used to using either Audioshare or GarageBand, and never really had to worry about sample rates as everything 'just worked'. I'm noticing everything I record in Auria though sounds 'a bit crap'.

Any tips welcome - maybe upping the sample rate? Otherwise I guess I'll record into my old favourites and just use Auria for editing - seems a bit of a waste though.

  • I don't own Gadget so I am not entirely aware of how it outputs files, but wouldn't the best option be some kind of digital transfer? For example when I used to use Cubasis, I would copy and paste the tracks into Auria.

Thanks for the reply - yes good idea, I'll check the Gadget export options. Still need to work out how to get a better sound from Auria recordings though as I'll need to record directly for overdubs. Might be as simple as upping the sample rate, I'll experiment with a few options.

  • Export your stems from gadget, then use iTunes or ifunbox to move the stems to auria. Piece of cake and it works well.

What are you recording directly to auria? Internal to iPad or using an interface and recording guitar, bass, vocals, clarinet, etc ? It's not your sample rate that's the issue, but there's not enough info right now. Can you make a video of what you are talking about?

  • I haven't noticed any issues from Gadget to Auria yet.
If I'm uncertain I often take my wav files into a desktop Daw to have a proper look/listen. Maybe do a Pepsi challenge on a desktop and compare Gadget stems export to an Audiobus/Auria recording and an Audioshare recording.

  • Thanks for the replies - I recorded to Auria via IAA, just sounds a bit ropey. I'll try the export option and see how that sounds.

  • In Gadget Export, DropBox, all tracks. The in Auria import from DropBox. No need for iFunBox or hooking up to a desktop.

  • Strange, I just tried this. I exported a track from gadget to Dropbox, then imported Into Auria from Dropbox. I can hear the track play but I cannot see the audio in the edit view. It is blank but I hear it.

That works really well, thanks for the tip. Sounds ten times better than what I recorded via IAA. I'll test Audiobus, see if that makes any difference.

  • You can use Dropbox, but it takes a long time if you have a lot of tracks and a long song.

  • Yeah I just tested a quick Master loop, but I'll need to create the full sequence in Gadget, and export each track separately so that'll be a biggun.
