BeatHawk MIDI Question

Can you play BeatHawk's sounds with MIDI notes? It looks like as long as BeatHawk is set to Network Session 1 you are good to go. I tried Nord Beat 2 but no response from BeatHawk. MIDIflow shows the data being transmitted. Any ideas on how to get this to work? Thanks.

    I tried with Chordion and Soundprism and works ok. You must set de midi outputs in the others apps first and then the inputs in BH. Nordbeat didn't work for me

    You also need to select a pad in BH.

    I just noticed that the midi implementation seems to be pitched based, rather than channel based. I can get pads, other than the one I select, to trigger, if the note changes. Pretty odd approach.

    Thanks for your help. I got Chordian and Sound Prism to work. That's weird it's based on pitch not MIDI channel.

    I was hoping to get step sequencer control because BeatHawk has to be played live to record. It's weird it doesn't have it.

    But if you're trying to control beathawk from a MPC-style 16 pad controller pad-per-channel would be awful too. Seems like it's a trade off either way based on use case and they just picked one.

    Auxy works! Select Auxy out and select Auxy from the BeatHawk MIDI menu.

    StepPolyArp works great.

    Also, PRO MIDI on sale 1.99. Great app for B.H. as well, considering no piano roll.

    As I recall, each "pad" in BeatHawk is its own MIDI channel.
    I complained about this in the BeatHawk thread, that might be better to just keep 16 pads on a single channel and then map out each pitch, but that would be 192 note values which is 64 too many for MIDI to handle.
    As such, I just use BeatMaker2 since it lets you concurrently play multiple APC/16-grid "pads" on a single channel with each one of the 8(?) drum kits in memory starting on the note where the last kit left off.

    @boberto As far as I can tell you only need one channel. I just tried it with Auxy again and I've got the output set to Auxy Out and MIDI channel 1.

    I haven't been able to get Beathawk triggered by external MIDI. I tried with Mod Step and Pro Midi. Perhaps the issue is that I have no idea what notes the pads start on (C1, C2, C3???). Also, rather annoying the latency keeps switching back to 1024 despite the fact I change it to 246 or whatever.

    if you make sure that "midi to virtual AU" is checked in Pro midi IAA settings it works with Beathawk. There's also more midi settings in the general Beathawk preferences, not just in the Audio/midi prefs, (wish they'd move all midi settings there) There you can select either to use selected pad or omni so there's a way to use instruments or pads or both I think. I did work it out before but have forgotten :) But if you check the Beathawk feedback thread I think it's in there....

    @carnbot thanks for the reminder about the settings. I got BH and Auxy to work for a few minutes last night and then it stopped, but even then I could only here the Auxy pattern playing when I had BH open not the other way around....will fiddle some more.

    EDIT: And that makes all the difference. The old 'background audio' lurking in the General Preferences foxes me (and irks me) every time....works like a charm. I sense another BeatHawk binge coming on...

    I agree. Plus move all midi settings to one place, as you suggested earlier.

    I have the same problem. I try to set my pad to C5 instead of C2 and it does not work. I saw a YouTube video of someone having succes with his AKAI. Does not work with the Beatstep. Don't know why.
