Crystal Synth has been around for years, even before it was ported to iOS from VST

I think it was one of the best freeware vst in the early years. I wonder why the developer of the amazing Synth1 vst , never ported the engine to iOS.

    Thanks Doug :)

  • I think you may be able to transfer users patches from the VST to this, not 100% sure on this, maybe someone knows, but it is universal and it will run in anything from iOS 5.1 up, so maybe the heavy CPU I get is due to it needing more work for iOS 8, to be fair I can't remember it being this intense when I first got it on my iPad 2. You can check it out in detail here along with 100's of other apps too http://thesoundtestroom.com/app_entry/crystal-synth-xt/

  • This was one of the first apps (the first version) I bought for my iPad 2.

  • So can it play polyphonic sounds guys? or is it only monophonic

  • Yes it's poly but is better at mono

  • I want to do some regular bread and butter strings and pad sounds but with stuff happening in the background is this possible?

  • Thanks in advance Doug.

  • Yeah I guess so, but I wouldn't want to program it, lol

  • Thanks man, i'm gonna get it anyway. I think theres a bunch of free presets online. Thanks for the video.

  • Got it! OMG!!!!!! This is one amazing beast of a synth! I love the sounds i'm getting out this. And it does do Polyphonic with no problem! WoW!!!!!

  • Top job then :-)

  • I can't sleep! I made this amazing pad and what blows me away is that this synth brings my Air 1 pad to its knees! WOW.... rough straight record into Audioshare. Hope you all like it. ''

Hey, check out this track on SoundCloud: Musikman4Christ Crystal XT Cinematic Strings MM4C at USA!

I'm sharing it from the SoundCloud iOS app -- get it here, free: https://app.adjust.io/c1ofg4

  • Great sounds, I remember this years ago as a VST. But frightening the use of cpu as I only have an iPad2 (at least for now).

  • Thanks Doug. Top demo as ever...

  • Fond memories from its vst days. Kind of like the fact that it looks pretty much the same as it did way back then. Was frustrating when it failed on the ipad2, holds its own on the air2.

  • @Musikman4Christ Nice cinematic-interlude stuff. Can't decide if this reminds me more of The Mission or Chariots of Fire....

  • One of one-too-many criminally neglected synths I opened once and figured I'd "give another go later" and promptly never did. I didn't even catch the keyboard vs circular saw interface option, let alone midi control and the sheer number of presets. Thanks for jogging the foggy memory banks, Doug! Must explore now ...

A lot of these evolving sounds remind me of - dare I say it - Alchemy! For a fraction of the price and minus the goofed buy-out.

  • Thanks JGY!
I'm really loving This synth and how it is forcing me to compromise in a good sort of way...trying to squeeze every little bit of sonic goodness without choking my CPU. I've already come up with some goodness to play live! Kind of reminds me of a lot of those amazing atmospheric pads and strings i loved on my old Korg Trinity.

  • A little bit dated gui. But... Sounds awesome! One of the BIG ones.

The main screen seems dated but its like an old good book, once you open it up and read, you just don't want to put it down. The next screens are well thought out and keep things interesting.
    Loving it!
Just be careful when creating new patches as there is no save as... Option. Instead you have create a new patch from existing and then that's the one you work on. I had an amazing patch I accidentally overwrote, but it was a fun learning experience.
This is one book, I want to learn slowly and enjoy the journey.
Definitely my favorite synth right now along with Z3TA.
