Any drum app that has 1/16th, 1/32nd, 1/8th grids but can also play notes/beats OFF grid?

Any recommendations guys/gals? I want ability to develop patterns with beats both on and off the grid.

Thanks in advance!

Not just a drum app but BeatMaker2 goes up to 1/96 grid which gives alot more ability to enter notes off the lower grids

  • DrumPerfect, Gadget, iMPC PRO

  • Hey thanks guys! Much appreciated. So just to confirm, you can also move the notes slightly off the grid? I've find often times, just having one or two notes off the grid adds to the bride and makes it not as regid.

Drumperfect was built with exactly this kind of "humanization" in mind. Here's the manual:

    http://www.drumperfect.nl/manual.html

You can grab individual or groups of strokes and shift them off the quantized grid with extreme precision. And you can add your own samples.

  • +1 on Drumperfect You can also randomize individual note-volume within certain amounts to gain a more human feel.

  • You guys rock! Thanks! I already have Beatmaker but will def check out Drumperfect. Much appreciated

  • You could also use something like Cubasis, selectively quantise, or use a fine grid to move notes/beats.

  • Different Drummer does this too.

Huzzah! I'm very relieved. Was getting worried about you over there :)

  • Still kicking @JGY.

  • Thanks funkunkie, I actually initially tried using different drummer but it's strength is also it's weakness (for me at least) Meaning that if I want to do some crazy new pattern, it's great for that but if I have a specific pattern in my head, I still don't know how to use it to replicate what's in my head. A simple example would be if I want just a downbeat at the beginning for the first three beats but not the 4th. On a regular grid, I just click three buttons and voila! Done, but with different drummer, it's a chore. If you can recommend any good tutorials on how to effectively use different drummer, it'd be much appreciated.

For right now, drumperfect was fairly easy to accomplish the beat in my head but I wish it were easier to audition different drum samples at a time while the beat is playing

  • No good tutorials that I could recommend based on what you're trying to accomplish. One of these days I need to break out my camera though. In your specific example, I would use a rest wave, that is a pulse wave form, and stretch it to carve a rest on the fourth beat.

Listen well to this one young grasshopper, we consider him the Rodin of Different Drummer...

  • Miles to go still.

I did recall a video that might help though...
