Tin Pan Rhythm out...

Very accessible, good sounds, but pretty limited in my opinion.

  • Agree with Dr Chris. Hopefully it will add midi out or midi export at some point and export of each loop by track.

  • Thanks for the heads up.

EDIT: Do note that Doug suggests it IS now AB.

  • Having played around this a while (and re-watched Sir Doug's vid), I think this is a great app for what it says on the tin. Perfect for song-writing. Not certain if those fiends over at the Song of the Month Club hadn't got me worrying about verse/chorus/change so much I would have realized how good this is for working on the backbone of any real song you might want to write.

I particularly like the fact that you can audition chords and make changes very easily and on-the-fly. As noted it has got AB and IAA. Is there room for midi and a lot more chords etc OF COURSE, but is it right now usable and quick and to the point? 1000%.

Personally this is the intuitive Session Band answer. Now, after all my hyperbole, if the developer happens to come by YOU MUST ALLOW US TO SAVE. Facile without it and I assure you there are loads of folks here who while they would/will love the facility of this app will not think of buying it without being able to save works in progress. This is essential.

  • Just got this myself and find the sound quality and transitions are very nice. Save feature would be nice but my first choice would be to allow each track as an AB input, co you could apply different effects per track. I ran it in Audioshare IAA and had global effects, which was nice, but tough to dial in something that works for everything. Another request would be for different time signatures and swing. I know the dev wanted to keep this simple, so it might be best to have a pro version.

  • @funjunkie27 agree.

For me (me, me) and having spent a couple of hours playing with it, I would really like a mute per bar per track, even if just while 'mixing', a touch on/off perhaps, this would be a tremendous force-multiplier as regards complexity (of mix, not app :).

But it just must have a save. It has so many possibilities that as a writer I want to return, revisit and rework. Almost all of completed art has its basis in this.

Thanks for all the great feedback!
Fear not, save is definitely coming.
Audiobus channel per instrument should be no problem either.

On MIDI support, I have a couple of questions -

    1. Can you point me to any apps that have integrated MIDI particularly well?

    2. Which is more important to you - MIDI out or MIDI export?

    3. Anything we should know about syncing MIDI with other apps/devices?

    4. Given that this is a paid download, would you feel cheated if MIDI support was an IAP?

We love to hear your feedback and anything you've made, too. You can find us @tinpanapp or email directly - contact (), tin-pan.com.

    Gil

PS If you enjoyed the app, our team would really appreciate a nice App Store review.

Fiddlewax Pro as a song writing tool does midi out extremely good

  • A pro version sounds a good idea. It would be really cool to click on the note squares for note editing.

@gil Still having fun with this, especially through AB.....small, addition for your feature/improvement list: The tempo is almost impossible to set exactly. This is a common problem often solved by either long holding and entering or double-tapping to do the same. The last three pieces I've worked on (....course I couldn't save them :) have been 98bpm, 97 and 101, because I couldn't get the number of 'sit' at precisely 100 as desired....

  • Midi out trumps midi export for me. I'd much rather go live! Along the lines of what JGY mentioned, midi sync would be helpful as well. I've had problems getting exact tempos too, but midi sync would mitigate the need to dial that in...at least for me. I'd be glad to pay for an IAP, since the initial price point was low. I think a good candidate for a receiver would be bs-16i....it's multi timbal, solid, and has been around for some time.

  • Thumbjam has excellent midi implementation. Contact the developer he is one super nice developer.

  • @gil My friend, my Godfather, my Ice-cream Man, my One Potential Savior etc. I know we have to have 'save' on this guy (I mean we have to Gil, we just have to), but on the seventh day and when you've got a little time could you PLEASE FIX THE TEMPO THINGIE.

Erm, sorry. Just, you know, going a little nuts over here. Takes me ten or fifteen goes at it to make it stop where it's supposed to. Sometimes I think it never will. Anything that can be done might make all the difference to everything.

    Phew. Thanks. Sorry.

  • I can second thumbjam or even
Soundprism ;) or (dare I say it) Xynthesizer

  • @JohnnyGoodyear an update with manual tempo input, plus another small surprise, is already submitted to Apple so out later this week if all goes well. Save will take a little while longer, and MIDI support a little longer still (the latter probably as an IAP). Hope that's helpful info!

Well done that man! Very happy about the tempo (of course), but yet more pleased (of course) about the saving issue.

I like this app, as you can tell, and selfishly want others to like it, give you money, encourage further development, and so on into the sea, but I notice that without being able to save I sometimes think of having a noodle (technical term), but then decide not to because I can't save one idea and move on to another, revisit an old one etc etc.

I know you know this already :) I am sure that, like me, you have a yellow legal pad with many drawings of eight circles with scribbled noted in each one, but even those don't help as much as they might....

Anyway, thanks for the note, thanks for the effort and I look forward etc etc.
