  • o.O a great idea to use a VST plugin!

Can anyone comment on the latency using audio?
I'm wondering how it compares to using an external audio interface with CCK or just the standard headphone output in this regard..

    tumbleweed

I thought this development for Windows users would be generating more interest! :)

  • I tried it but its a bit of a faff around, especially when I'm trying to relax on the sofa with the Surface Pro.....

...i have opted to keep it all on one device as much as possible to streamline and simplify making noises.....

.....probably best with desktop or laptops.

  • I can't get Music IO to connect for some reason and I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I'm using Reaper 4 and an iPad 2 on iOS 7.1.2

  • Been out of the loop for a few days (pulling together the second Windows beta -- should be out early next week, with support for all four channels, and maybe, Windows XP).

Latency will vary depending on the system; still tweaking things, but it looks like many people are landing round 30 to 35ms. We're sneaking into the DAW through the VST plug-ins, so whatever audio interface people have wrapping around things will obviously be a big factor. I'm just starting to understand the different audio interface options on the PC; it seems like a mixed bag of some good and a lot of bad.

@Freeman -- first thing to check is that iTunes is installed (we're leveraging some code from that to get the connection). Second thing to check would be any sort of aggressive firewall (the connection between the VST and iOS uses the system networking resources). If you drop us a line at [email protected] we can try to chase after it, and get things going.

  • have only tried in audiomulch and ableton yet but I get more crackling in audiomulch. seems a bit more stable in ableton. can this be
improved a bit? anyway been having a lot of fun with this.

  • AudioMulch? (Wow, did not know that even existed!).

The update should be a little bit more stable -- still trying to dial in the trade-off between latency and glitches, will likely need a user-controlled dial to specify this. The range of audio performance on Windows is huge -- ASIO, DirectSound, WaveOut, and about a dozen other things, it seems like, each with their own quirks.

And it looks like Windows XP will be a go for the next beta version. I didn't think it would work, but after some reverse engineering, and a lot of coffee, I think we've got it.

  • Win Xp! That's awesome, I can't wait to try it out. I'm sure it'll hurt my brain but I'm willing to give it a shot.

  • @secretbasedesign. yup audiomulch, actually one of my fav (u should check out the metasurface in audiomulch). As for audio drivers, most musicians seem to stick to asio and if u don't have an audiocard with asio drivers, u can use asio4ll.

  • I'm no programmer, but isn't supporting ASIO basically the same whether it's being used on Windows or OSX?
And as said above, ASIO drivers are really the only ones that matter to virtually anyone that might be using this app.

  • Be nice to see some videos as suggested SecretBaseDesign as to how to set up the midi options and loop effects in windows with various DAWS. I saw the MAC setup video by Dan from the dream team showing this feature. Here's hoping someone can show a setup for windows. I hope Apple don't screw this app up with iOS 9 or pull it for any reason as its a game changer.

  • WinXP ? Thanks!!! Adjustable latency? Yeah!! Is it ready for downloading?

  • Just spent 2 hours trying to get a recording in REAPER, LIVE, and STAGELIGHT using music i/o plugin. All DAWS are seeing the instruments I am getting metering however when I hit record no audio is recorded in any of the DAWS. I have the full app. any ideas why? It sayes MIDI input 0 disabled on the VST middle circle if I select it nothing happens. Midi from & to are ticked.

  • @Jumpercollins are you trying to record audio or midi?

  • Korakios trying to record audio.

  • @Jumpercollins said:
    Korakios trying to record audio.

Haven't bought the full version yet, but tomorrow I will and post again, in the meantime on Reaper (it's the DAW I use) you have to check on the input tag of the track "Record Output"...

  • Hi Korakios thanks for your advice, been emailing the team direct and managed to get a few answers from Patrick in regards to recording. You have to bounce 1 track into another according to his instructions on the site. Ive managed it with Ableton live. Still trying with Reaper and Stagelight. Im getting close with Reaper still missing something? on the I/O tab in Reaper Im managing to send my first track music I/O plugin inserted to be recieved by the second track however still not getting any recording going into the 2nd track?

  • There are plenty of reasons to prefer one DAW over another, but for ease of complex routing- MIDI, Audio, MIDI to audio tracks- I don't think there is anything better or more intuitive than Live.

  • Reaper & Music I/O audio sorted next up Stagelight!

  • A new beta version for Windows is out -- more details at
    http://musicioapp.com/downloads/windows/

This supports four channels of audio, has fewer glitches, and a little bit of clean-up on the UI. We have Windows XP working.... just need to get the fix for XP to play nice with Windows 7 and 8. So -- it will probably be another week or two before we have that out to the public.

The MIDI-only version of Music IO is still free, so grab it if you need it! The combined app has both audio and MIDI, so if you've got that, no need for the MIDI-only....

Drop us a line at [email protected] if you run into trouble!

  • Nice one will try it out tomorrow

  • And here's a quick video, showing how to set things up....

  • Thanks again for the Windows support! Haven't tried the newest one yet, but VERY happy with how it has been working so far.

  • Bought the full version and tried with Reaper (win8.1 64bit)

Everything works! But I didn't noticed any difference in the "Latency adjustment" .

I was running Reaper at 64 buffer sample and MusicIO on 128 buffer and things where fast. Loaded Thor,Magellan,Yamaha AN2015,SynthMaster and had 4 separate tracks on Reaper.NICE!

The FX Loop works ,so anything from my PC can be treated with Turnado....Nicer!

I noticed a bug on the ipad app where after 10 or more minutes inactive ,the hosted apps where disconnected from MusicIO and had to reload them.

    Some FR's.

I would like a dropdown menu for selecting the midi port instead of cycle-clicking!

Lower latency if possible ,since I didn't had any glitches.

More channels! Although I don't think my ipad (mini2) can handle 8 synths and fx on the same time!

    Audiobus support!

  • Good to hear that it's working well for folks. Most of my hardware is Mac based, so I've been doing testing on an anemic little Dell, with Windows 8 and a cobbled together audio system. My PC can't even play a DVD back smoothly. For other Windows versions, I've been doing things in VMware on my real Mac development machine -- so it's hard to know how well things actually run in the real world.

I'll be cleaning up the UI, and I'll talk to the other dev about bumping up the maximum number of audio tracks.

  • I finally got Music IO running on my Windows 7 laptop. What I had to do was go into msconfig, select all the Apple startup services, and restart. It was that simple.

  • @Freeman -- ahhh! Yay! (Did you ping us through the support email? I think so, but my brain is scrambled enough that I'm not putting all the forum names together with the email names). At this point, I think there are two people who have the VST running, but it won't connect -- so this may be the ticket to solve their problem as well.

Some folks are having trouble loading the newer VST into their DAWs -- if you hit that, give the older one a spin (it's available on our web site as well), and let us know. We're trying to figure out which configurations are causing trouble, so that we can focus our efforts on them.

Thanks very much to everyone for all the support and feedback -- we're trying to push the limits, and we very much appreciate the help!

@SecretBaseDesign I don't blame you for the confusion. I have a different name for every forum and email I have. I'm the one who couldn't get the iPad 2 with iOS 7.1.2 to connect via Music IO to his Windows 7 laptop. It's all working well now and couldn't be happier. Every single synth app I've tried has worked like a charm with unnoticeable latency running an ASIO driver at 128 samples. The only app that has given me an issue was BeatMaker 2. For some reason the presses were not only delayed, but it was glitching out on me like an EDM breakdown. It was a cool unintended effect at first but it definitely got annoying rather quickly. I'm trying to get to the bottom of that issue.

edit: forgot to mention that I'm running the latest beta of the Music IO VST. I'll give the older one a go and report back.

  • Just to report fast on beta 2. Really more stable for me in audiomulch. Practically no glitches (only once in a while).
I'm using win 7 64 bit with 32 bit hosts.
