Midi LE over bluetooth - directly into Gadget

Hi,

I've been trying to run MidiLE directly into Gadget (on my iPad Air) from my iphone6 and also my iPad Mini 2. All on iOS8.3.

So this is NOT using Apollo Midi as a go-between app (I know that works) - this directly app to app over bluetooth.

So far i've been trying Bassline (as a midi generator) and TC Orbiter. Results so far:

  • Bassline (iPad Mini) > Gadget (iPad Air) - works!

  • Bassline (iPhone 6) > Gadget (iPad Air) - doesn't work

  • Orbiter (iPhone 6) > Gadget (iPad Air) - doesn't work

Anyone else tried it?

Anything you can suggest I might do differently to try and get the iPhone6 working? Any other apps on the iPhone 6 I should try?

  • And:

TC-Data (iPad Mini) > Gadget (iPad Air) - works!

Seems like it's just getting my iPhone6 to connect which is what's not working. It just keeps saying "connecting" then "not connected"

  • Panic over. Got it working by getting bassline iPad to connect to bassline iPhone. That initiated the pairing wizard and after that it worked.

  • This sounds promising I'll try some tomorrow.

  • Yep. All works nicely. Second device sends midi notes/ccs directly to Gadget. This only works for apps that are MidiLE Bluetooth enabled though.

  • Latency is very low as far as I can tell so far.

  • Very cool! Nice work!

  • I have used various sequencers with Thumbjam thru Apollo. That's it.

It just didn't make things easier for me though. It is cool to experiment with for shits and gigs.

  • Didn't get a chance to test too much going on in the house. Is this good for sync between devices or is it just cc/note input @Matt_Fletcher_2000?

  • @supadom - sync seemed to work ok between Bassline and Gadget on different devices. Gadget being the slave. They started at exactly the same time. I could change tempo down on Bassline and Gadget slowed down accordingly.

I didn't do extensive tests though.

Not sure which apps have MidiLE implemented though. Not sure about Loopy for example.
