Did you use iFunbox to add the .syx file?

That was a quote from someone in the Korg forum. I haven't tried it yet. I did find a reference to using iTunes for transferring sysex files. I downloaded some from Patcharena, will attempt to transfer them via iFunbox tonight.

This is from the iM1 manual:

    • Import from M1: Imports data created on the original M1
series as a system exclusive file into iM1 for iPad.
The data to be imported or the data that you've
exported can be written to or read from your iPad via
    iTunes software on your computer.

  • It's very easy to get nostalgic when using iM1/Darwin inside Gadget, so many classic sounds are there just a few taps away :)

I wish Korg could make a 'bigger' global onscreen keyboard for Gadget (Like in the standalone in iM1) with 'velocity' on the vertical axis (Which isn't present on the onscreen keyboard in iM1), and maybe add modulation when sliding the finger up/down the key.

Looking forward to @thesoundtestroom's Gadget + iM1/Darwin video...
I'm guessing it will be very 90s Euro-House oriented :D

+1 I'd love to have this in the other gadgets too.

(In general I don't understand why this is not implemented in every iOS synth. It's a touch screen after all)

  • I agree too re bigger, velocity and after touch on screen keyboard.

Korg could also put a Kaos pad option on all the Gadgets (like in iM1).

There's lots of little improvements they could make to Gadget as a production environment to be honest.

  • Does anyone know any 'Forum' where the 'Korg/Gadget Developers' hang out?

There is a lot of love for Korg apps here and the Gadget-developers could get a lot of feedback and suggestions if they wanted to...

Please. Your lips, Korg's ears etc....

They are not often replying and it seems they"overlook"to often even the simplest requests but...they are reading. https://support.korguser.net/hc/communities/public/topics/200037165-KORG-Gadget-community

If Korg are just going to do just 2 small things to Gadget every 6 months then to be honest putting Kaos Pads in probably isn't a priority.

    I'd say:

    • send effects (even maybe, dare I say it, IAA effects)
    • increased sample length
    • midi out

would be. And of course audio tracks like they promised.

I guess I can live in hope...

  • I agree with your outline, but I am also a wuss who is to some extent gratefully taking what he is given at this point. NOT the way empires were built, let me tell you.... :)

Integrating it with Gadget is my next video, just been playing with it now

I see the other video is up, no thread here though.

One question, to anyone really, what do the dials in Darwin control?

  • @thesoundtestroom Thanks Doug for the demo: My first thought on the iM1 was "pass" but after hearing your dancing through the presets I'm sold. I had No idea how many classic sounds belonged to the M1 !

I'll buy it, but not until I see the third video, which is just Doug dancing.

The control what their legends say (attack, decay, release, resonance etc.) of the whole patch

  • @firejan82 Thanks!

Went ahead and got this app, has a lot more depth to it than I initially saw in my casual glance. A lot of room for sound design, and a nice browser too, pretty cool.

  • no problem

Yes I agree. The search function in Darwin is what I really use but it's fun to go by each card. The cards were very expensive back in the day.

Back the day I remember reading an article in Keybaord magazine about what studio equipment they used to record the samples.

I got this off of Wikipedia:

The huge success of the M1 lies primarily in the quality of its sounds. Korg expanded on the Sample & Synthesis idea,[1] formally implemented on Korg DSS-1 in 1986:
instead of classic analog subtractive synthesis where simple analog waveforms (square, triangle, saw, etc.) are produced by tone generators (oscillators) it uses overtone-rich complex digital samples of actual acoustic instruments and classic synths of the past, and applies full subtractive synthesis processing: filters, LFOs, envelope generators, digital effects, etc. The resulting sounds were rich, colorful and natural.

  • Yep that's Korg quality. If only you guys heard the sounds of the Korg Trinity V3, it was way ahead of its time. The first synth with a huge touch screen. I have this synth and I stopped using it Live cause I love it so much and was afraid to mess it up.
So that is why I'm hoping Korg will do the same to the Trinity as they did for the M1.

Yes I'm sure they will eventually. It doesn't cost them much to do a Trinity gadget.

  • I'm thinking iWaveStation will be next, and if it has the same 'improvements' as the iM1 it will be a welcome addition. (iM1 is way easier to program due to better UI than the VST/AU version).

Guess it's time for me to register myself at the Korg Support forums and start feeding them with ideas?!?! :D

I'll start with a 'velocity' sensitive onscreen keyboard (Y-Axis on the onscreen keyboard controls velocity, and once the note is playing moving the finger up/down the key acts as either aftertouch or modulation wheel).

After that try to push for the same improved keyboard as a global onscreen keyboard for Gadget ;)

  • The day I see the Trinity on the iPad, It will be a dream come true. The Trinity sounds so crisp and clear I guess due to the 48 khz sampling rate. I truly hope it does come true.

  • Why stop at Trinity?

A Virtual Korg Kronos would be totally amazing.
Or at least App version of the different synthesis engines :)

The HD-1 engine is M1/O1W/WS on steroids.
MS-20 and PolySix we already have and since Korg already has the code for the remaining engines it's just a matter of time before virtual versions are reality.

  • An M3 with Karma would be pretty sweet as a compromise between the triton and Kronos.

  • Oh yeah KARMA synth would be out of this world. I think all the Arp guys would drool for that Karma sound engine.

  • I didnt know the m1 but for some reason i was expecting better sounds, but for me it sounds like an "old cheap synth" not the quality but the kind of sounds

  • @Aphex Everyone's got toast :)
