Contest Entry Recorded Entirely On iPad Mini 2
Hi there fellow Audiobus users....I have entered the song "Fly By Night" in a Rush cover contest...and it was recorded and mastered entirely on my iPad mini 2.
Here's the link to listen to it (I tried to embed it, but couldn't get it to work):
Please let me know what you think of it...or, you can even vote for it if you are so inclined.
I used Beathawk for the majority of the instrumentation, recorded a mix of that into Cubasis (I could not get the song export in Beathawk to work without occasionally cutting off the beginning of patterns), then played some electric guitar through Mobile Pod, added snare drum and toms from Cubasis, and glockenspiel from Thumbjam. The vocals were all recorded into Cubasis using a USB Audio Technica mic. I also used VocaLive and Galileo for some of the vocal effects. The mastering was done with Final Touch.
Oh, and I used Audio Technica ATH-M50x headphones for the tracking, mixing, and mastering. Recording with my iPad was, dare I say, fun....a word I don't believe I ever used to describe recording on a desktop.
The contest wanted creative, contemporary covers...so, I came up with a much different arrangement than the original Rush tune. I ended up being very happy with the final result. I hope you like it too!

Bump-a-rooni....I've learned a lot from this forum, and would very much like to hear your opinions.
Thanks!

Well done! Had I not known prior to listening, it would have taken at least a minute into the song before I would have recognized it as a Rush song...and that's a cool thing! The sound quality is nice, much better than some others that I checked out.
Good luck!
Upon a re-reading your post the BeatHawk issue stood out --
"I used Beathawk for the majority of the instrumentation, recorded a mix of that into Cubasis (I could not get the song export in Beathawk to work without occasionally cutting off the beginning of patterns..."
I've reported this issue to UVI and they have a problem report opened for it. It may help if you, or others with same problem in BeatHawk would send them an email, etc.
Will do Mister Toz.
I'm not a rush fan at all (am I the only bassist on earth that does not like rush? Ha!) but I will check this out in a few minutes as I drive.
Thanks @TozBourne! I really did try to come up with a very different arrangement. And I'll be sure to report the Beathawk issue.

@mrufino1...that's ok...it really doesn't sound much like Rush...so, there is a chance you'll like it.

It wouldn't stream on my phone, but I will check it out later on the computer.

I updated the link in the original post.
Thanks for bringing it to my attention!

Your new link works. Hope you win.
Cool. Thanks so much! I doubt if I have much of a chance...but, it was really fun to do anyway.
