  • Does he still think we are important to Samplr?

    Just wondering.

Samplr needs to get MIDI action like Egoist in playing individual slices/parts.

  • please ask him, on his page everything that you want to know

thats useless, in my opinion, i try hardly over a year, in different ways and words........

example for a question since one year no answer from him:
    http://samplr.net/forum/index.php?p=/discussion/240/rex-files-would-be-perfect
    another thread:
    http://samplr.net/forum/index.php?p=/discussion/235/samplr-staff-are-you-there

we all feel home here @forum.audiob.us, the response is fast, friendly, creative and useful.
The Samplr(Forum)CustomerSupportSocialSkill is 0=silence, IF > slooooooow, or just disarming.

I just hope he realize what amazing job he did with the SamplrApp, and what it is for us....

    I LOVE IT!!!

Samplr needs not only MIDI (YES!!!), it need to cut and normalize the sampl/recs. and a Option to clear the records WITH if you delete it @the front, its so hard to see witch sampl/recs are really used....after days of records you have just a big hill of something....more record options not only 3x and you have to delete if you will mute the last take...automationrecordings of the FX section and seperat Reverb, not only global, other import options and RexFiles would be PERFECT!....but.......i dont believe he will take this to heart.....

dont forget it really needs a mixdown/export option and multiple outs for audio.. and a stable midi clock sync

  • @Buska -- guh, MIDI clock sync is the worst on Samplr. good call.

is Egoist the closest thing to Samplr? the $30 price tag really is unappetizing. standalone, Samplr makes great use of gesture and the interface is beautiful. but it's never made sense to fit into my larger workflow because of the absence of MIDI control/sync.

  • Samplr and Egoist----hmmmmn

    Well worth the 30

Egoist is a self contained mini lab for a variety of glitches for whatever genre you are into.

Ego is a slicer and sequencer with a drum machine and bass synth.

1 function of Egoist is that you have 16 slices and you can play them on midi keyboard.

    Egoist also syncs nice Cubasis.

As in Sampr - the keyboard function

Well imagine you can play each piece slice with midi

Egoist is awesome, but I feel I need to live it in almost fulltime which isn't sustainable (for me). Hard to explain. Need to find the space for it in the flow as a friend with benefits rather than a full-on Fatal Attraction.

I've always been a bit disappointed with the audio out quality from Samplr. Loved it when I first bought it - I thought it was the best thing since sliced bread, but when I've tried using it in tracks it doesn't quite do it for me. I also hoped there'd be a bit more development but it feels like it's been left on a dusty shelf. Probably haven't used it for over 6 months, which is surprising as I thought I'd use it on everything when I first got it.

Feels like it needs a bit of love and updating from the developer - and hopefully his enthusiasm will rub off on the rest of us (me).

  • I would't put Samplr and Egoist in the same space at all. Samplr is all about real-time playing for me. Egoist is all about slice and dice and sequence.

I'd love all of the Samplr features mentioned here but none more than trim/normalize. I know I can do it in AS but I'm lazy and it messes with my short-lived inspiration bumps. Plus, if you're off by a bit when trimming in AS (for slicing on the beat, say) you've gotta try again. Indeed, I'd actually be happiest with adjustable in/out (start/end) points in Samplr—if you need to adjust, just adjust.

    Spot on.

It is tapas vs. formal dining experience.

    Tasty nonetheless.

  • It's an interesting thought— at what point is it okay for another developer to emulate an abandoned app to rejoin compatibility and extend its functionality? I'm not saying this is required here, as Samplr's at least up to date (for the moment). The dev is most likely just overwhelmed with other work or on to bigger things. But there will come a time when some beloved app gets to that point.

In Samplr's case, you wouldn't even need to reverse engineer much. The functions are primarily off the shelf. What makes it original is the clever way it's all organized into a cohesive and intuitive single screen.

I say we all pool our money and hire Geert Bevin from Moog to go visit Mr. Alonso and work his magic. Then we can send him to Steinberg to fix their timeline zoom. Hell. Let's just send him to Apple. The guys amazing.

    Ditto

  • Looks like Mr. Bevin has his hands full with moog right about now. I haven't given up on Marcos just yet as around the time of the last update he expressed still thinking about ideas for updates, he even said that he thought it would be a good idea to make Samplr universal but that that would take allot of time, So I believe he's still in the game it's just that the game is golf rather than indie car racing. I think the best thing we can do is continue to let him know how important it is.

Hey Marcoooooooooos......... SAMPLR IS REALLY IMPORTANT MAAAAAN ! ...... yodelayheehooo

I think Samplr is pretty much complete as is. Exporting to audio-share for trimming is a doddle. Importing from Dropbox is there too. Every time I use this app I'm gob smacked at just how ridiculously well thought out it is and every time I find a new way of playing it. If there were 2 things that I'd think would make a difference would be adding triplets to time division and ultimately separate outs for IAA/Audiobus use.

As far as updates are concerned, the last one dropped some time after iOS 8 release to bring it up to speed with that OS and latest ab sdk. This is about 6 months ago. While it may be a lifetime by some other apps standards I wouldn't call it abbandonware considering how close to perfection the app already is.

    tsk tsk.... panning lol

you know it's close for me too, basic management, basic midi, in slot sample editing...

  • I wish one of the demo/ reviewer guys would do an in depth interview with Marcos Alonso cause it would be great to hear what's going on in his head regarding the app right now, something like that great interview jakob did with Jonatan Liljedahl.

  • Samplr is awesome, and i agree with @supadom And i will like to buy more apps from this developer, or even IAPs in samplr.

  • yeah the dev is a little mysterious like keyser soze but he's a good guy.

Haha, vote for separate outs and you'll get panning within the deal! Samplr standalone is magic but combined with other apps is magickier. Multi outs, imagine running different tracks through different effects. I'm wet.

I just jammed a 6/4 tune in samplr + loopy and they marched close together as there's no tomorrow so sync shouldn't be much of a problem anymore.

  • I want sep outs too, I think he'll give us both

  • Samplr is by far my favorite app, favorite music making software hands down. Yes separate outs would be great but thats minor. Only app i have got to sync well with samplr is loopy hd

  • If Loopy can sync well with it then all devs should check with loopy to see how he got it to work code wise.
I know Diode 108 dev is serious about midi sync his app to other apps. Wonder if he tried it with Smplr.

Samplr is an amazing app but separate outs and midi learn would make it pro .
I do hope the dev makes it so...

Also Ableton like sample editing wouldn't be out of place, in fact the lack of any sample editing feels a bit odd here.

One of the first things I tried when I got the iCA4+ was sync 2 ipads with Samplr running together via Midiflow...worked great = 12 Samplr streams :)

and also 2 outs....(edit: ok 4 outs in stereo pairs)

  • @aaronpc said:
Let's just send him to Apple.

I thought he got hired by Apple. I'm sure I read that somewhere, probably here.

Samplr is sweet all around, especially because it feels like it's made for the iPad, as opposed to just being on the iPad.

  • I love Samplr, it's in the top 3 no doubt. He does work for Apple and technically, Apple employees aren't allowed to have an app in the app store, maybe that has something to do with the lack of development. That said, I'm ready to pay for IAP for simple editing and MIDI. I've been READY FOR YEARS, let's go Marcos.

  • Hello all I've been ghosting this forum for a long time and this thread finally got me to register and get involved. I couldn't live without Samplr I use it everyday I play it as my main instrument in two bands as of this weekend just gone it's because of Samplr that I bought an ipad and that i take it with me everywhere I go because you never know when your going to find the next mind blowing sound it's because of Samplr that I no longer use my computer with Reason to make music because of Samplr I am now able to make electronic music live on stage in ways I could never of imagined it feels like and is a live musical instrument unlike any other. Ok so I agree with all the ideas full midi implementation (if we had this I would probably build a massive custom midi controller just for Samplr) individual outs I can see why people would want it although personally I'm not fussed. Panning yes yes yes that would add some real depth to the sound. Editing again I can understand but just buy audio share and lets not waste Samplr dev's time.

Now onto some suggestion's I have that I've not seen before that I hope can get some back up here

save file and sample file organization this really needs sorting out and I believe could be a reasonably easy update I really need to be able to arrange my files into folders it's starting to freak me out a bit I've got this massive long list of files and running multiple different projects it's becoming a bit of a headache. So basically my suggestion is to just rip off the audio share filing system and be done with it because that works really well. This is more important than any other issue within Samplr.

recording effect motions would be really cool

proper midi control of the Samplr keyboard

a step sequencer that could pop up out of the play buttons so as not to clutter the interface and obviously per step parameter control ;)

P.S it's because of Samplr that I have hardly touched my bass in 12 months

  • Oh yeah and just a note I would be happy to pay serious money for a massive update or whole new pro version of Samplr

  • edited June 2015

@hollownation: 'individual outs I can see why people would want it although personally I'm not fussed. Panning yes yes yes that would add some real depth to the sound'

I can see why some people want panning if the app is used standalone but with multiple outs this can be achieved anyway. I can also understand why people may prefer using this standalone since midi sync is still a tad behind desktop etc.

If standalone my top of the list would be adding triplets to time divisions and panning. They both could work by using long press and swipe left or right for panning and long press to add a t to the division number. Give me the calculator I'll code it all in for Marcos myself!

  • The developer also was involved in Reactable
Here's his mail: [email protected] ;)

  • More quantitize modes and a midi clock sync fix.For the rest its perfect how it is.
