Syntmaster: Preset packs
Which ones do you like?
Grabbed a few last night - gonna get $30 worth more tonight.
What struck your fancy and why?
Thanks
Comments
Sorry @RustiK, I think we're waiting for you to tell us
Well I grabbed 3 of the 50 presets and 1 x 100 preset.
I am pleased.
I got the world, some EDM one, one by Danyella, and the Techno one.
I will worn, look at the items of each.
Lead vs. Bass vs. ARP vs. CHord
The packs have different make ups.
The chords are the most valuable of the items in the packs IMO.
The techno pack is very BEnnasi or Victor Caldrone. Very cool.
World is awesome. High quALITY .
@RustiK I was sniffing around the Danyella, but I think maybe World might be a better place to start from sound of it. I know it's all a crap shoot and depends wholly what you do with them, but it's Thursday and almost night and why not, eh?
That world pack is very nice indeed. ready to do some KillBilly now;)
No doubt.
I will give the review on the others tomorrow.
There are great woodwinds and percussion on the World.
Alot of awesome Persian stuff.
If there are any of the packs you guys would like to hear in particular let me know
I would like to hear some under your thumbs Sir Doug. Perhaps you might pick a couple contrasting ones (if they are) that you think are good....
I have some bugs with my iPad version (I'm one of the unlucky guys who bought immediately for $10, before it went to $5), so my comments are regarding the PC version.
Anyhooo, the Dawn of Electronic presents ones are cool - especially the Kraftwerk one - just playing some of the sounds will give you a big grin. Really. Just do it. You know you want to let your inner Dieter out.
Not downloading any till the app becomes more stable. A 3rd of the samples are unplayable on a iPad 3 takes the CPU off the scale with glitch img.
@Jumpercollins Hmmm. Understandable and that's a shame. Have to say that while the CPU is busy, I've had no issues (air1/8.3).
I grabbed 4 more last night.
They are all quality. I did not get any Vintage or Historical type packs. So, I got the remaining 10.99 and 7.99 packs for house and club.
Here is my take away. I have no regrets.
However...............................
If you buy the number 1 expansion pack for each artist or style- you are pretty well covered. The number 2 of each series is really not that different. All of them are really good.
The presets are that of the quintessential house and techno from New York and London from 1997-2014.
Junior Vasquez - Armen van Helden - Carl Cox Jonathan Peters - Victor Caldrone - Erick Morillo -- yada yada
The highlights for me of them were these 2 things.
The Chords. Wow. Really classy and quality sounds.
The hi hat/cymb sequences. These are 1st class. No F/x needed.
In fact that is the main takeaway for me from these presets. F/x are not needed for most. It is already tweaked perfectly. For me that is great. The least amount of apps I need to complete work the better. Plus, Smaster is riddled with glitches and hang ups, so that is really a plus to minimize app usage.
The main bug still existing is that when switching back and forth IAA or Audiobus the sound goes to a low volume mono sound that is not usable. I found switching sounds in S-master remedied the problem.
All and all-- positive and very pleased. This weekend I will exploring the Vintage or Anthology type packs and get back to you.
@RustiK Great feedback/info. Thank you v. much.
When you say:
The hi hat/cymb sequences. These are 1st class. No F/x needed.
What pack are you talking about? Or are these existent in all?
I hear you on getting the #1 packs....makes sense.
I am by no means fully in to quintessential house and techno (although I did live in London and New York , but like to co-opt some of these sorts of sounds as long as they're co-optable. Probably means I lean towards ambient end etc.
Thanks again.
There are extremely well processed and sequenced hi-hat/cym runs.
Actually there are alot some good trap ones as well.
.
Next to that, the chords are perfect for ambient and traditional electro pop or jazz fusion.
Knowing what you like by your posts - I think you would take nicely to grabbing a couple of these. They have the demo songs you can listen to as well.
I would grab the the 10.99 pack
Oh the pads are really good so if that matters
Thanks again Captain, I'm going to dive in for 10.99 and not pay any attention to the fact that that's half of the Cyclop beast I have been ignoring
Cyclop is very best for creativity, Sir Goodyear!
Waiting Auria Pro to power Cyclop! I am highly recommending it. Free time now, I am playing Triqtraq.
@Kaikoo Have no doubt there will be enough space on my iPad as the plane nose lifts up next week for a little Cyclop action to see me through the dull hours.
In other news, I find Triqtraq very creative. Things get made and it has a simple focus to it I like a lot. In fact I was just thinking about spending an hour going through the Synthmaster pack I did indeed buy, but I think instead Triqtraq and one more cup of sleepy tea are what's needed Just think, there are at least two of us on this whole small world who will be working between the A-B-C-D banks....good luck to you with yours...
Sophie's Choice........................................
I was not aware of this.
Hmmmmmm.............................Cyclop is a dirty bot' and a'lot o' fun
I will step back and let you choose your own fate. When we know you will end up with all of them anyway.
I've just got the iM1 IAPs which seems to have plenty of World progs. I feel like I should spend some time with these, wheat and chaff and all that, but am tempted by the recommendation here for the Sounds of the World bank, and also the demo song. Anybody have iM1 and think that this will still be worth having?
@Fitz Need? No. Want? Absolutely.
I know. Sometimes I'm writing a question like this knowing full well I'll probably buy it straight after!
@Fitz.....just bought it, and I feel OK about it, because the sounds are good and I can (somehow) partially blame you
And now I can blame you too! It does help to have that extra push. Not sure the bank manager (or wife) will sympathise when I explain that Johnny Goodyear made me do it!
Worry not @Fitz Doctor Goodyear has been blamed for much down the years and has developed broad and calloused shoulders...
Must admit that so far I much prefer the presets in Synthmaster to iM1 ... More modern and 'underground' style in Synthmaster.
Am I right that it has no internal record function? You need to hook it up to an IAA output? I tried to do this with audioshare and it started recording but the synth master stop button didn't stop audioshare recording.
You can use AB transport controls to start/stop record into Audioshare via Audiobus. Might want test your record level to avoid clipping before getting all twiddly on the X/Y pads, though.
@Matt_Fletcher_2000 Good question, am puzzled by the transport controls in Synthmaster. What do they do or when do/can they do it? Not getting any action out of them over here...
They are working in Cubasis, I just went and checked. I opened Cubasis and launched SM via inter app audio and the transport controls worked and Synth master also synced up to my preselected Cubasis Tempo.
Anyone tried any patches from the desktop version with their own patches using custom Wavetables ?
The rock one is mainly mellotron emulations, Hammond B3's which are more usable when tweaked and some odd sounding pianos. If you're into this sort of thing you might want to take a look at M3000 & Galileo or others. Also, the XY controls don't do anything which is surprising.
2 new banks are coming out, edm stars 2 from Ufuk Kevser and pop hits vol 4 from Nori Ubukata. I'm sure most people will love those expansion banks
