SampleTank sale + question
Hi,
SampleTank is now on sale for 9.99. All Sounds Pack is 19.99, Sample Moog, Sonik Synth and Miroslav are all 9.99.
Can anyone tell me if the Sounds Packs are on sale (at these prices)?
Also does anyone know if IAP from SampleTank free will be avaliable in the full version of SampleTank (with registration)?
Finally, my reference is a Yamaha s90es (basically a Motif ES with a killer piano sample added in). I'm considering getting a fully expanded SampleTank, to use in it's place. Do you think I'll be massively disappointed (the Yamaha does sounds pretty awesome, especially for it's age)?
Sorry if these questions have already been answered before.
Cheers,
Sune

In my experience, IAPs made in Free don't transfer over to the full version, but what I did was buy some IAPs in Free and some in Full, so that I can use them side by side.
prices are all 50% off,
iaps don't transfer,
sounds are okay but not awesome, so you're likely going to be disappointed, though possibly not massively
At those prices it's definitely worth getting the full version and the IAPs.
However for the piano sound alone I think Korg Module is a better bet, it's also on sale at the moment.
Is Sonik Synth IAP worth it? I own everything except that one.
I was thinking about sampletank the other day. Listening to Korg iM1 made me realise that ST may soon be deleted from my iPad, plus the space it takes up in comparison to iM1.
I don't use it very often at all. I debated in the passed wether or not to buy all the IAP's (glad I didn't). Don't get me wrong, sampletank is good but things change.
Just the Strings is 181 in the korg. In ST there are 19 and I guess a few in the orchestra packs etc.
But 181 sounds like a better deal to me.
I also hear noise on a lot of the samples.
Your choice may be different than mine.
Yes.
And the Grid.
Not worth getting ST without the Grid and Sonic
Great, thank you all!
If I'm only getting some sounds, what would be the order of purchase in your oppinion - Choosing between: Sonic Synth, The Grid, Sample moog, All sound packs & Paid version basic sound set?
Some apps I already have: Cubasis, Auria (will get pro), GB, iSem, Magellan, Animoog, Addictive Synth, Synth Master & all but the original sessionsband apps.
Bonus question: It's correct that SampleTank does not support state saving right?
I have them all, I think Sonic Synth is my favourite.
Do you think the iM1 represents a better all round general purpose workhorse than sampletank or does it just suit what you do better?
The world certainly has changed since I played the M, T's (and wavestation) and if memory serves an M1 would not be the way forward, but more a blast to the past kind of thing, with a limited sound/palette. But mind you i havent played any of those boards in ages.
order of purchase of course depends on what you want to do
I think buying the base app is a good start, as that will also show you that there are both good and not so good sounds in there. Plus you can preview all the sounds of the full version from within the app.
@RigVader It seems that a number of us who thought the iM1 would primarily be a nostalgia machine have been pleasantly surprised...
Oh cool, I didn't realize that.
That's pretty interesting. I'm wondering how much of that is the extra waveforms from all the expansions, or perhaps just a lack of "sameness" that the M1's eletronics/converters might have caused :-) Unfortunately I'm on apples naughty-no-return-list and have been burned by quite some apps, so I don't think I'm going to chance a purchase of iM1 right now.
Well I must say, iM1 is not my favourite out of all the sound module and synths but I want the best I can get (a lot, but not all, do).
There are some samples in sampletank that I would love to use but can't. Because of the way they were sampled/recorded. Background noise, humming, shuffling, AC, cut short or other. If you compound/multiply those noises it becomes huge. We can fix some of it, but we should not have to, (after paying XYZ for quality).
I don't want to be one who said, no don't get them (IAP's) but you can hear what I'm talking about in the free packs. I bought one or two packs can't remember which ones and I have the full version.
Nothing's perfect there are many good sounds there (ST). My comparison with iM1 was also about quantity.
I too thought iM1 would have been a bit of a backward move/step, but it's not. (Plus Gadget intergration). Some people were judging the app on the same day they got it and came to some rushed conclusions (funny!). I've had it almost 2weeks and still haven't listened to a quarter of the sounds. By listen, I don't mean playing middle C for 3 seconds and moving on to the next preset. I mean playing something that suits that sound/intrument, live or pre-composed. Im not trying to promote it at all. But there are some great sounds, and a lot of edit-ability. It's an M1 with an (i). That (i) adds a great deal to its original caperbillites and quality. :-)
I also have Music Studio, that is a good comparison for Sampletank. MS has some great acoustic sounds also, quite similar to ST.
Once again I'm not trying to put you off Sampletank, but for (me) I can get those sounds elsewhere.
Better still, have all of them, ST, iM1 n MS (finance and space permitting) and you'll be well away.
Choice is good!
Indeed! Tanks for elaborating :-)
I was able to audition the full and all packs sound in the free edition, but non of the Sonic or moog stuff was there.
I did have a lot of crashing as I was browsing through the presets though. SampleTank lost state in the process and seemingly reverted to default. Is this something you experience as well?
Not had any crashes personally, either on iPad 4 or on Air 2.
Good to know. Are you on ios 8.3?
Yes.
Wow, sonic synth.. over 300 sounds, including 25 drumkits.. In reality 4 drumkits with useles variations of fx applied. This pattern repeats over much of the pack. What a ripoff
Yeah I noticed that too. Plus they say you have to delete any sub packs because duplicates are part of the 300 sounds.
The sub-package thing seems fair and just a logistics thing I believe. They are after all subsets of the full Sonic Synth, so if you buy the full package, you'll have all the sounds anyway.
