BIAS iOS adds Amp Match support! (download only)
I actually had shelved BIAS for the time due to latency on my older device, but this update definitely gets my attention. BIAS iPad now allows users to download "Amp Match" presets from the community!
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/id711314889?mt=8
This is potentially HUGE. Amp Match is a feature in the desktop version of BIAS, which (as I understand it) allows you to record real-life amps either through DI or mic'ed up. The software then tries to match that as close as it can using the BIAS engine to create a virtual BIAS version of the amp.
To be clear, you CANNOT create an Amp Match preset using the iOS apps - that is still reserved for the desktop professional edition. I'm also not clear on how Amp Match portrays the gain structure of an amp - unless you record a range of static tones that are assembled into a "dynamic" picture of that amp by the software. Perhaps that's something a desktop user could chime in on, also...
Does anyone have BIAS Desktop or know more about how well this works? One thing I am not clear on is if iOS users can download only patches from a Positive Grid-endorsed list of sources, or if anyone with a Two Rock Studio, Silvertone, Supro, or (insert amp here) at home can upload a patch and make it available to iOS users.
Here's their description:
About Amp Match
Originally released for BIAS Professional only, Amp Match accurately captures the tone of any tube amplifier by analyzing and compare a currently designed BIAS amp model with the sound of a real mic’d amp or file source. It then executes the tonal compensation and enhancement needed to make this current amp model accurately match the target amplifier. There are already hundreds of Amp Match models available created by users, producers, and engineers, as well as artists such as Mark Holcomb from Periphery, Ola Englund, Rusty Cooley, among many others.

Does this mean that the amp sims quality in BIAS FX are the exact same as in the Desktop version?
Very interesting, I downloaded a few of these 'amp match' models. Bit of a mixed bag so far, but some nice ones I've found.
Cool idea.
Hey, I opened up BiasFX and Bias last night. I didn't see how to get a hold of these amp match models. Could someone offer some guidance?
Tap on Tone then Featured. Don't think the update was there last night
Not a geetar man, by any stretch, but I think this is such cool/good promotion...(and thanks @TedBPhx)
I think a lot depends on the settings on the source amp applied by those who do the matching, and therefore their taste, and apparently many are into heavy distortion/metal.
This also means you won't get the full range of tones the amp can produce, from low gain to high gain, presence, channel etc. since much of that is locked into the source amp settings during the matching process. I think the actual BIAS design stages offer more flexibility. With Tone matching it's just pot luck if you can find one you like, unless you can create it yourself with your own gear (and the desktop pro version). But it's fun and as more matched models become available there will be more chance of finding good ones.
I do wish the Tonecloud had a "matched only" filter.
And I wonder if the guitars used have an influence as well?
Just got the updates, OK now, thx
I don't know anything about the 'amp matching' process, but I suspect not everyone who has used it and uploaded their efforts to the Bias Tonecloud does either - there's quite a few well 'fizzy' examples that I've tried !
I previously haven't tried, the preview function on their cloud thing, it's really useful to be able to audition people's patches.
