Apps like Borderlands?

Hi,
I was wondering if someone could give me a breakdown of Apps that do long evolving dark drones. I have had great success with Borderlands. I am aware of Mitosynth, iDensity, Soundscaper, and TC-11. Which ones would be your first choice? I generally like rather subtle and evolving drones.

Thanks

  • That should be SoundScaper! plus Turnado effects on audiobus chain!

  • I don't know how dark you want, but Animoog, Tera, Cube synths, iMini and Cyclop can all be your candidates.

  • Thanks Kaikoo! I have Animoog. So, I guess I was thinking either iDensity or SoundScaper.

You just need reverb, delay and some "dark" noise ;)

  • I love to use Audiostretch. You can make a way file with any synth, sound, app, you like and the import it into Audiostretch. You can slow it way down, reverse it, or a little of both. Can make some cool soundscapes.

Maybe Ploop http://poolp.webflow.io/ with several effects and speed variability for each loop along with the standard loop controls. Heck, even take the output of this and send it to iDensity or any Holderness app. There's your dark.

Also try cranking up the BPM on Xynthesizer, muck with its reverb and FX and set any section of it(or all of it) to randomize. Shove that through Filtatron.

    Also try DROM!

LOL, Are you lining up for Grammy or Oscard Award?

  • elsa can produce some great atmospherics by utilising the sampler, looper & fx ...

  • Drone FX by Plaino LLC

Seems to have been somewhat abandoned as not updated since 2012 & distinct lack of AB /IAA but produces some nice drones n wotnot.

  • Soundscaper is specialized in creating drones.

If SoundScaper add two more oscillators, filters, multi-envelopes, a build-in recoder ( like Borderlands ) and a mixer, it will be a drone King!

    Oh! a keyboard I forgot!

  • There’s an app called “Slynthy” which I haven’t got. No idea if it’s any good.

@u0421793 I see you've sold out, gone all corporate, and lost the finger over there. Happens everywhere, punks become suits become robots.

Hang on, I sense a punk anthem coming on... :)

Hah, joke’s on you — my shirt wasn’t even ironed!

It was just a quick tail-end of a photoshoot I set up yesterday evening (Lastolite Hi-lite background with an Elinchrom BX250i inside, main light Elinchrom D-Lite 4 into Lastolite brolly-box, fill light another D-Lite 4 into silver brolly, Nikon D7000 and 50mm AF lens (pre-D). Knockout-white background alpha-channeled out in uploaded png).

Wow! Photo-musician! or Music-Photo Reptiler! Hehe

    Yeah, thought so.

That's lot of kit for an avatar.... :)

  • You are humorous, Dr. Googear!

  • Yeah, but I was shooting my wife and her new hair (although I used a Nikkor 16-85mm for that), not an avatar. If I was going to set up the shoot specifically for an avatar, I’d use my Mamiya C330 with 180mm lens pack and process the TMax400 myself in DD-X. (That reminds me, I’ve still got a bunch of 120 film hanging over from two years ago when I was still shooting film, before my film scanner broke — uneconomical repair. Better put it in the Bronica ETRSi and burn it off this summer. Then sell the film cameras forever).

  • Some of the play modes in samplr are good for drones also

  • You may also want to try Sliver :)

Good idea! I just don't have Sliver. But I am tempting to buy Sliver.

I think Sliver is undermentioned, maybe even underappreciated. I love it and it can create very dreamful and potentially dark results. There's a good up and running video on TSR.
