MidiMux AudioMux or Music IO ?
I now own both apps audio and midi versions? You may ask why, as they achieve the same function connecting iOS devices to MAC or PC in my case PC.
Ideally you want a app to DAW connection, be it midi or audio to be a plug in select the source and away you go make music setup. However at this time I find both apps are lacking in this department due to a number of issues.
- Documentation and instruction could be better, none of the apps come with this built in as far as I can see.
What is on the websites is pretty basic info hopefully this will improve over time. I realize they have to cater for numerous DAW setups. There are a few videos out, but again don't go into all the detail required to get up and running fully I feel. A few more of these going into more detail for all the main DAWS would be nice to see.
- both completing apps seem to approach the connection setup from different angles. With Music IO you need to download a plugin and place it in your plug in folder that your DAW uses and the plugin is seen as a effect.
Musi I/O with audio you need to create 2 tracks in your DAW and use your 1st Music IO track as a SEND to a second track to get audio in which I find a bit of a work around.
This was one of the reasons I downloaded Midimux / Audiomux as it appears you don't need to create 2 tracks, I may be wrong.
With Midimux you download a virtual server program to windows which sits in the background in your windows system tray.
After starting the app select your instrument and then select the instrument in your DAW midi preferences. then select the midi options in and outs within the track.I found however in windows 8.1 that the server program keeps dropping out and disappearing from the system tray. You then lose the connection between ipad and laptop and have to reinstall the sever program ? Anyone else experiencing this problem ?
I know its early days with this connectivity so all the above is to be expected, I hope that both completing apps mature to be the amazing apps they should be for what they do for the price, compared with what you pay for i connectivity hardware.
Anyone experiences with either apps setups appreciated.

So far musicIO has been great on windows 7 but looking forward to trying out audio with audiomux2 in windows. I find the interface of musicIO great!
I have to say while the flashy quality is good for the eyes in the mux family we are audio creators, and for my old iPad 2 musicIO is staaaaaaabbbbllllleeeee.(relatively) I should say it actually works. Unlike the other.
Am I right in assuming that you need a DAW with vst, or plug in capabilities to use these? Is there a work around for Reason users?
Don't believe you can use Reason on its own as its standalone. You would need to rewire it in another DAW maybe to use these connection apps as effect.
Mmm, thought that might be the case!
Has anyone got one of these 2 work in Ableton using a single track to both send midi, and receive audio?
As I'm using Ableton live lite which is limited to 8 tracks, this would be most useful..
Hi Mart I have the same limitations using the Lite 9 version of Live I've managed to get midi out but not audio in at present using both versions of Mux both have achieved both Audio in and Midi out using Music I/O. Currently away from my laptop till next week so will give it a go again with Audiomux then.
I've been using MIDI LE (1.04) with a lot of success in the last couple days. Midi only of course, and the only thing I don't like is it seems to be a bit quirky about the connection if you load another DAW or quit and restart. I can't tell what causes it but its slightly fiddly. But all in all simple and works!
Anyone got Audiomux to work as yet on Windows still finding it crashes any DAW I use as soon as I select my iPad in the vast window?
Also has anyone managed to get get either Music IO or Audiomux/ Midimux to work in FL Studio 12 as was thinking of purchasing this as my main DAW and would like to be able to use these apps with it?
Audiomux kept crashing FL Studio for me too, my fix was to not open Audiomux on my ipad until AFTER the VST loaded in FL. Then it ran fine, only problem is I can't get any audio. I emailed the dev(s) & they reported the same problem with FL, which was fixed by random settings changes that are as yet unknown. They say they will get back to me in the next few days.
Midimux worked fine for me, seemed a little laggy though but it will probably take awhile to get the Windows integration at an optimal point.
Updated to FL Studio 12.1 & Audiomux is a crash-fest again. Might pull the trigger on Music IO, oh god please let a 12.1 user reply here and say it works...
Edit: I bought Music IO, a lot of crackling audio, then of course Audiomux started working again (i think i forgot to restart my pc...).
Music IO doesn't work in Cubase 8 at the mo. Cubase doesn't see the VST. Fl Studio does, as well as Ableton.
Audiomux crashes ableton a lot. The best order of things, this meaning the way it almost never crashes, is to create a midi track, at the vst to the track, and then connecting the ipad to the computer. Adding or opening the vst with a ipad already connected to ableton is a instant crash for me. I'm on windows btw.
I'm on an old ipad 2, so this might be the reason, but recording using midimux to send midi from a keyboard connected to my pc, and audiomux to get the sound into ableton, doesn't really work. I mean, it works but just playing the keyboard will get you the occasional note jump or weird glide sounds. For short, if you're lucky, you can get it done. But if I i'm playing some keys and using some knobs the timing starts to get all wrong and everything gets fucked... Like I said, I'm on a ipad 2, I kind of blame that, but would like to know if anyone can get a setup like this stable in a newer ipad.
