Annoying 'draft saved' pop ups
I've seen a few people mention this before, but I'd like to repeat the request - could the forum admin please either turn off, or increase the transparency of the 'draft saved...' Pop ups?
Typing this in now on my iPhone, every 30 seconds or so there's a large rectangular pop up telling me the draft has been saved. It obscures my text so I have to wait for it to go, and to be honest it's completely unnecessary - I don't need to know this.
It's a great forum and I'm grateful it's here, but posting on here is a frustrating experience on a phone.
Thanks

This thing is driving me mad, I'm surprised no-one else is bothered by it, maybe it's worse on the iPhone. Today the message seems to get stuck - so writing this now I've got big box saying 'draft saved...' Over the text and it's not shifting, just stuck obscuring the text.
Yep it has been 'stuck' lately even gets annoying on the ipad, hate to think what it's like on smaller screens.
It really affects the usability on a phone as it covers a quarter of the editing screen, and as you scroll the screen the message box stays over the same bit of text so you can't see what you've written. Really annoying.
Doesn't quite obscure the same area but as you say it remains in the same spot, so you end up typing blindly, quotes can be truncated as well, guess one or two things need ironing out.
Maybe it's already been addressed? It comes up below the textarea for me—entirely out of view actually. I had to scroll to find it. iPhone 6, portrait and landscape.
Since you're a web developer, I orta give you shit for not including: Is it in portrait or landscape that it obscures the textarea? What phone model? What OS version? Mobile view or "Full Site" view? But it's Father's Day so I wont.
It was also my day off, so not in developer mode but it's Monday now so: iPhone 5, iOS 7.1, mobile site, portrait.
I'm taking my time with this post so seeing if it happens, but haven't had it yet so maybe they've disabled it (hooray).
Nope, just popped up again but at the bottom of the text area instead of the middle. Nope, just popped up over the middle again.
Yesterday it was rampant, popping up every few seconds and then 'sticking' on the page. There it goes again, over the middle.
It's now told me five times this post has been saved - I don't need to know this.
It's an issue for me as I've got curved fingers (dunno, I just have) and as well as dealing with Apples insistence on changing some of my words, I'm always hitting the wrong keys. So I have to keep checking what I've written and editing it, but I have to wait for (thee it goes again) the stupid pop up.
In the course of a few minutes it's appeared nearly ten times. This is a usability fail.
AAAAAAAAAARGH
I'm the only person who seems annoyed with this, but the screen grab is a good example of how this is a usability fail for me:
Yet another example of the perils associated with Welsh devolution I'm afraid...
I clicked on your image monzo and it went full screen, that never usually happens, yeah I can see why your frustrated, I use my ipad, plus it's saved me writing out a reply again after my browser crashed so I don't mind it, but that obscures the whole text box, on this reply though it hasn't popped up yet, just the post comment button goes a lighter colour instead.
Saving the draft is a great feature, but I don't need to be told it's happened, every few minutes...
I need it to tell me the handshake status and results for each TCP/IP packet received. How do I know it’s really happening otherwise?
Ironically on the occasions the forum has gone offline while I've been typing a reply, it hasn't saved them. An even greater irony could be that all this extra pressure on the server could be what caused it to freeze/crash in the fiDRAFT SAVED 08:43
I wish this 'feature' would be removed or at least made optional for individual accounts. It's too frequent and sometimes one is left with useless saved drafts after changing one's mind about posting. It could be handy for long posts but I for one usually make these up in an editor and copy/paste them for posting.
BTW. This is the only forum I know of that has this.
If they're still using the Vanilla plugin, and using the 'Starter' plan then it looks like it can't easily be turned off, but is possible: http://vanillaforums.org/discussion/29369/how-to-hide-draft-saved-message
I'm guessing it's deliberately annoying so to persuade users to upgrade their plan.
It's totally off screen for me on the iPhone 6 (iOS8). It could be an insidious ploy to force an upgrade but I have a feeling it has more to do with some Safari CSS issue on iOS7 and/or the CSS writer testing on iPhone 6/iOS8 only.
Ah ok thanks, looks like they need to tweak their CSS then, lots of people still using ios7 on iPhones.
For what it's worth, I've passed Michael CSS snippets for little fixes before and he's been kind enough to implement them. If you have the iOS simulator on your Mac, maybe you can drum up a hack/fix and send him a PM.
Odd, I'm not getting it at all. iOS 8 on iPhone 6 plus.
I'll talk with Mike about it.
Try again now, please. Mike seems to have fixed it.
Thanks, seemed better just now and appeared at the bottom, but I'll keep an eye on it.
So it's okay now?
It was when I checked it on my phone, I'm at work on a desktop now, but I'll check again later. I don't have an iOS simulator installed so can't test.
The pop up appeared in different places before - sometimes it'd be at the bottom of the screen, other times at the top, but usually in the middle over the text. It moved when I scrolled the page so seemed fixed to a point over the text editor. Maybe the positioning was relative to the size of the edit screen.
It was out of the way right at the bottom of the page away from the text editing area when I checked this morning, but I'll only be able to confirm when I've used it more, and for different sizes of text.
Still doing it:
And then it wouldn't attach the file:
No. Could you not just switch the notifications off? They serve no useful purpose.
