Korg MicroKey 37 with iPad and unpowered hub - possible?
Hi,
Korg MicroKey 37 is supposedly not able to be powered by an iPad (25 key version is).
I've found references to a thread over at iosmidi.com forum, that seems to suggest that it's possible to use a Korg Nanohub, which is an unpowered hub and get the iPad to power the MicroKey 37 anyway. Unfortunately that forum is dead it seems.
Does anyone have any information and possibly experience to share?

Don't know about the MicroKey but my old Lexicon Alpha Soundcard works when using a powered USB hub, so if it's class compliant and needs power via USB I would assume it would work.
no direct experience but I have the 25 and had looked a bit on the web of other people's experience with 37 and 61 and whether they could be powered by the ipad.
apparently they can if you only use the keys but you need the powered hub if you want to use the keyboard's usb slot to add another piece of hardware
note that this is only second hand information, might still help
I have the MicroKey 37, it won't power up without a powered hub, the MicroKey 25 does though.
Both my keyboards are not supported and work with a simple usb hub (non powered) between them.If it wont work you can also buy an Usb Y-cable and connect a battery pack for extra power instead of a powered usb hub.
Yes, the Korg MicroKey 37 does work with an unpowered hub, as suggested by the last poster. I just tried mine with a "Belkin USB 2.0 4-Port Ultra-Mini Hub" and it worked fine.
I stand corrected in that case, I just presumed that it doesn't work straight into the iPad it would need a powered hub.

I have found I can use ANY of my UNpowered USB hubs to run my KORG Microkey 61: First, you plug the hub into the USB Camera Adapter, next you plug the Lightning connector into the iPad, and finally plug the keyboard into the hub. No external power needed! However I wouldn't attempt to run any extra devices from the keyboard's built-in hub...
(I have an iPad mini and an iPad mini 2, and my USB hubs are cheap generic units)
That is the shtick with the Korg Triton Taktiles now with the Triton engines.
They have updated "low power"modes for IPad use.
Also, have specific implementation with Gadget.

Yes, generation 2 should work without a hub. Btw. in my testing, only about half the unpowered hub i tried worked (tried 4 or 5).
