I think for most people the answer will be both
To me both apps sound great and any opinion in that matter is subjective. but Igrand and ilectric have better MIDI implementation,
What if it was,
If you could afford one.....
Neither. Too harsh piano sounds, except for tweaking hard. I find a
Soundfont, boesendorfer a.k.a "realistic piano" (for searchmachine, commercial, austrian provenance 20bucks/20mb) a good compromise
It's a little like comparing apples and oranges. I prefer the APs and EPs in iGrand and iLectric, but Module has good programs for synth, strings and organ which I use routinely.
I only have Module and not the IK ones, so I guess that says it, and a large part if that is because of Gadget integration. I have a hardware keyboard if I want to just play piano / electric piano.
Have them all, use Module more mainly because of its versatility more than anything else. Nothing against the IKM apps, just stay in Module a lot more.
I also have a personal bias against IKM licensing that is totally unrelated to the quality of their sounds or apps that I've already repeated enough that may be effecting my decision here.
I play piano and sing professionally and I find the (self-tweaked) Ivory Piano IAP on Module the most useable out of all the piano sounds available on iPad.
Is the only way to cover ipad and iphone with one iGrand purchase, to buy the iphone version and live with the somewhat ugly graphics on the ipad then? I mean to remember that buying iap's for the ipad-version of Vacalive made them available on the iphone-version too, but I am not sure. But if this were possible, I would take the route of getting the free versions with iap's, otherwise I think, the iphone-version is the way to go, for me.
I bought IK iGrand and am loving it so much. It is still at a special price and that made the deal so much sweeter.
Now that I have great sounding pianos in Cubasis and great Eps and pads in Korg iM1, I'm really set with a great arsenal of sounds. Now all we need is time to enjoy it all!
They're all great sounding apps. For me Module gets the nod because you get Acoustic and Electric pianos, and, well, Gadget integration.
I bit the bullet, and to buck the trend, I would definitely say "module". When I originally posted the question, I didn't realize the suite of instruments gadget contains.
Fortunately, I don't ~have~ to pick one, so I still have iGrand, and I'll still use it.
Bingo.
