Great mix! Nice blend of UKG and bassline house..I'm liking bassline right now, thinking about making some..
Thanks for submitting it
You should try traktor dj..
Have it, but don't like it that much, I don't like the master tempo feature. I want my pitch sliders, I also use DJay 2
I've got a idj pro which is fantastic portable setup for the price (I paid £160). Use it with DJAY 2, was considering getting an s4 mk2 for traitor DJ, but just couldn't justify the outlay as I've got a NS7 ii and rane 62 for serato dj. I dj out quite a lot and have used most setups, although not cross dj or mixx.
It was the last time I used traktor dj that the beat map was well out, to be fair it's been wonky at times but never that bad, only time it's happened. Have been loading up my library on my ipad to start doing mixes with traktor or dj player, like that I can use my audio 10 sound card, after a firmware update. But when it comes to beat sync I'm a bit of a puritan, I look at it, point, then shout witchcraft and try and raise a rabble from the village to go and burn it down, but secretly it excites me and I fantasize about all the stuff I could be doing instead of beat matching.
Your mix has inspired me to delve into dj player a bit deeper, thanks.
I never ever had any bpm sync issues with traktor DJ or cross DJ. I love that I don't need headphones to cue anymore..I can see the wav forms and judge when the right time to bring next track in. It saves time..time that can be used mixing, adjusting eq , messing with fx etc
I like to hold two tracks together for a long time, mashing them up..if I'm spending 1-2 minutes beat matching , all I have time to do then is quick fade in and out lol
The not using headphones part is very appealing, been times when I'm in a loud environment, where I can't hear my headphones at all, even when they're at full volume. Freeing up time though with sync options to get creative is something I've been thinking about a lot, even though I enjoy beatmatching as it kind of keeps me on my toes and gives my brain something to focus on.
Think I just need to experiment more as I run into a few things that really bug me, like in traktor dj, lining up a track, hitting play and it either playing on the bar after, or from some random point, I want it to play from the point I position it on everytime. I'm hoping these issues are just down to me not understanding the apps properly, as the ipad, now I have the hd space, is a much better proposition than my chubby laptop, when it comes to portability, plus I prefer touch over trackpad and mouse, most times.
Just a image on the set up I use to do the mix,
@mister_rz , try DJ Player you would like it and the developer constantly update it with new features and bug fixes. It has a lot of features in settings and it's quite stable, of all the DJ Apps is the only professional one on the App Store with full DVS function. The app is free with a IAP for the pro version, get the pro IAP , you would not reget it.
You can set multiple cue points in traktor DJ
Choose which one at any time
Traktor is very cool if you bring another track that's looping then make both tracks loop for a bit, mess with the fx etc
I used to have 1210s but find a certain freedom to express now bpm sync exists.
You can therefore get into deeper blends and mixes in this way..it's very meditative..nice
Forget the "on your toes " thing lol, go for deeper immersion in sound
Get people brain dancing too..
Nothing quite like surprising people who didn't expect a track they know and love to subtly appear as if out of nowhere in the mix..
Traktor dj can do 4 decks btw
@touchconspiracy ,DJ Player could do 4 decks with DVS control , as I mention before I don't use Traktor that much because I want pitch sliders not a Global BPM Sync feature, that's my only gripe with Traktor, if it had pitch sliders with its Sync feature, what a killer..
Even with syncing on I still need to cue, I can't ditch the headphones yet. I just put more time into prepping the incoming track with effects and EQ to really nail things the way I want them to sound. It's fun doing it without headphones, but not something I prefer.
Thanks @touchconspiracy and @djjuniorpops you've given me a lot to think about, I'm still using full traktor with two decks and fx, need to get into the remix decks and gulp.... sync option, see if I bond with it, I'm not even using looping. Very interested in both traktor dj, as it offers something different, especially the freeze option and dj player, as I can use it old skool style, like a proud dinosaur watching the huge fireball streak across the sky. I just wish the ios dj apps, had a 4band eq option, which is how I've got traktor set-up.
@Tarekith good point, was just thinking about using the waveform, but getting the eq right especially, is important, had too many mixes go pear shaped due to the track coming in not being loud enough or being bass light.
If I can jump in and continue / interrupt this thread by asking: Which of the DJ apps is best for playing back my own .wav files, being able to sync tracks and also allows radical tempo changes?
I'm coming from a background of playing gigs with Ableton Live in column mode and would love the closest thing to emulating that (if there is one)
From what I've seen NI's Traktor for iPad looks the part though I've yet to actually try it.
Any recommends would be greatly appreciated.
Yes traktor dj is by far the best mate. Perfect bpm sync, u can hold two tunes perfect for as long as u want
The waveform display is sweet so u can judge where the kicks and snares are etc
The only three dj apps worth getting are
Traktor dj
Djay 2
Cross DJ
U can get free version of cross DJ and still record and upload mixes, even allows u to mix direct from siundcloud
@touchconspiracy ok thanks man.
(Because of Traktor I'm finally going to have to get over my resistance to connecting to computer via USB to get music files into iTunes. (I was So hoping to be able to do that through Dropbox))
Yeah I hear u on that. I cannot sync right now, that why I use cross DJ , cause that can access soundcloud tracks
There has just been an update to dj player that has better support for traktor mk2 timecode vinyl, says you have to set dvs frequency to 3000hz support, might be a good time to dip your toes in the pool.
While I'm a fan of many of the dj iOS apps mentioned, stems is the newest innovation to dj ing in a long time but I doubt any ios app will be capable of using that technology for awhile.
What's stems..link please ?
If native instruments didn't update traktor dj with stems support soonish, they would be missing a trick trying to get stems adopted as a format, stems does look interesting though, especially combined with the remix decks, something else I'd like to see in traktor dj.
http://www.native-instruments.com/en/specials/stems
Wow! That is crazy good..the title stems gives it away too
Now, how can this be implemented for ios, the potential is massive
With traktor dj it would be simple, just add 4 channel remix deck support, with other apps what I'd like to see is if you load a stem file to a deck, have a drop down menu icon appear so you could load other stems when expanded and either control them separately or use the deck/waveform control, midi controllers etc, for the stem track that is in focus. The waveform display instead of using colours to highlight different frequencies, could just colour code based on stems, or have the ability to split each waveform display into four separate views, which took up the space of one large waveform display.
