Effects Poll - Stand Alone vs Plug In

I just started using effects that morph the sound like Tornado and AUFX: Dub. I was wondering how people input their source audio.

I guess you need to mix down the audio first and import, but Fitz posted picture of a chain of third apps running in Tone Stack. If people wouldn't giving some suggestions in the comments that would be great. Thanks!

  • I'm mostly a guitar player. After mucking with Amplitube, Flying Haggis and Jamup, I'm going to be just using Saturn and Timeless as plugins on an unaltered guitar feed in Auria. I like the massive range of effects I get with that - I'll pick up Volcano at some point as well. And I also like the fact that if after the fact, I decide that I have too much of an effect, too distorted, too wide a chorus, and it's not working in the mix, I can alter it at that time.

  • I rarely use them stand alone. IAA and Audiobus of course, I do that a lot especially on iPhone. If I want to automate Sugar Bytes apps or AUFX: Dub I will use Tabletop. Auria is great for automating Turnado or WOW and it also does multiple instances.

Agreed. And dig into the savings vault; volcano is very fun.

  • Oh, I will. ;)

  • Interesting. AudioBus is at the top so far but over 50% use 2 or all 3 methods for their effects. Is it because some effect apps will not work as a plugin in a DAW, AudioBus, or both so you have to use it as a stand alone?
