Multiple Instances of the Same App?

I'm not sure if this has ever been discussed here, but I do have to say one thing I like very much about Tabletop is being able to run multiple instances of the same app. Do you think that would / could ever be a possibility with Audiobus? Perhaps it's something developers just have to work into each app, or maybe it somehow could get worked into the Audiobus SDK. I'd love to see the day.

  • This is already possible if you own the ipad and iphone versions of the same app... i.e. Holderness Media apps.

  • Man, it sure seems possible to me, but I am not a software guy. I have Magellan and Magellan Jr. for just this reason. It would be nice, but I fear we would run the CPU into the ground before too many iterations of an app are up and running properly anyways. Here's hopin'.

  • I don't think it's possible currently but fingers crossed after ios 9, it may be possible with AU plugin apps....

  • Gadget, Cubasis, TableTop and Auria run multiple instances of their 'built-in' stuff.
TableTop has 'TableTop Specific' versions of iMini, iMPC, iMPC Pro, and iProphet 'baked in'(technically there should be no need to have the stand-alone apps installed since they are 'baked-in' into TableTop but they are most likely used for 'licensing/activation'). Gadget has a 'smart' way of sharing date between Module and iM1 (I suspect private iOS FileProviders in both apps). TableTop would benefit from this technology greatly too for sharing samples between the stand-alone iMPC Pro, and iMPC and patches with iMini and iProphet. The 'Plug-Ins' are baked into Auria too and can't be used anywhere else. And Cubasis too uses it's 'baked-in' stuff.

AU's are by design built to be run in as many instances as the host can handle so when iOS9 hits i suspect that most developers who keep up with iOS updates will bake in an AUs in their existing apps (The AU's are after all delivered on iOS as 'app extensions'), It would only make sense for 'old' apps to include the new AU as IAP because it's quite a bit of work to make it work...

All in all, things can only get better from now on... :D
