XYNTHESIZR = AUXY ?
I see some grumblings about AUXY.
Is it fair to say it is really similar to X-sizer?
If not, how so?
For those of you who have it: With it not being on A-bus, do you still spend real time playing it or not really
For those of you who have X-sizer: Is it a "fun" app? Meaning, brainless on the fly and by mood you can quickly getting a groove going? Can you use MIDI keyboard to play X-sizer on IPad? I assume it is Iphone capable from what I read.
THANKS
Comments
"X-sizer" is good, I don't use it, but my impressions are it creates cool arps, generative patterns, is a well thought out app that can be very useful. Also has a basic but good synth engine
Considering auxy has no export or routing to this day, I consider it an insult on the devs part to still neglect those features
I think they are different things pretty much entirely.
Both are awesome. Auxy has the Ableton like clip launching, you can record a performance of a whole song. Xynthesizr you can make some cool patterns and play with synthesis while its playing even on the iPhone and in AB or IAA.
Well I bought Xsizer to try at the gym in little bit.
I appreciate the feedback. (as luke warm as they were for each app)
"Meaning, brainless on the fly and by mood you can quickly getting a groove going?" - for me this is Auxy
It's also fun to use it to control external synths through MIDI. I have more fun with Auxy than Xynthesizer. Auxy exports wav files.
There is audio and midi export in Auxy. What kind export are you looking for?
I never used Ableton for anything. I have it. Instead, back in the day Acid/Soundforge and Cubase/Cubasis these days.
I have pondered giving it some attention and see if it clips...............I mean clicks.....
Odd with starting fresh at this point.
I thought so.
Really -- something to doodle to make a loop or phrase for later use in a track or slicing
I'd consider it an insult to the work put in on Xynthesizr to directly compare it to Auxy...
Xynthesizr has multiple options for probability within a pattern. That is something that seems almost counter to Auxy's whole purpose. As well, Xynthesizr has a much more robust synth engine that you can edit, Auxy doesn't really allow for synth editing.
I know folks love Auxy around here, but in no way is it as complex in its options as Xynthesizr. As well, imo graphics-wise, Xynthesizr blows Auxy outta the water.
You're insulted by a free app?
Export to iTunes? Dropbox?
In a nutshell, if a music app don't have acp, openin , IAA or ab , it's an insult wether it's free or nor yes
Geez I just wanted a recommendation for an app for the treadmill.
So, X-sizer is really good then? I'm confused,
You can export the midi file to both iTunes and Dropbox and the audio to Dropbox or to AudioShare were you can drop it in the iTunes File Sharing folder. Did you even touch the app or are you just too offended by it?
they're both very good and do quite different things
very tough rules you have, mr. tc
I think auxy is delightful
Yes it is. I would not say it's fair to compare to Auxy, as I would consider Auxy way less comprehensive. I just wanted to point that out and point out qualities that Xynthesizr has which Auxy doesn't.
Yup.
Lol, it didn't release with open in, glad it's there now for those that like the app. But to be honest, it's fair to say I'm into more serious apps tho, no offense to those who like apps such as auxy
Glad u like it, if it gives u pleasure and creative freedom, that's the main thing, despite what cranky nitwits like me say:) and I sincerely mean that.
I've been using ios strictly since 2009 and have spent so much cash, received so many promo codes and owned many iPads iPods and iPhones . I've finally settled on a few core apps and I am extremely cautious about buying more these days. The apps need that certain power that underground dance music should have and I need fluidity, clarity and quality. Don't get me wrong, I love the fun apps, especially generative ones, but I won't use them really
The screen shot has my current installed music apps, the rest I rarely use anymore
XYNTHESIZR is a full featured synth with a sequencer , AUXY is a midi sequencer that includes a sound engine with very limited editing. There only real overlap is the sequencer. I prefer Auxy sequencer if inputing notes manually.
XYNTHESIZR is a little to generative for my taste but the synth editing is very cool.
The OP was looking for something to "use at the gym". To me that would be Auxy or Figure - not Xynth. And I have used them all. Not saying one is better than the other.
I personally wouldn't bring my iPad to the gym unless it's my own personal gym. I'm not quite sure why I feel this way.
Agreed. Xynthesizer is a fantastic app but might be a little fiddly for gym type.
Also +1 to the comments above that this is an apples-to-oranges comparison. They're in almost every way entirely different species.
XYNTHESIZER!!! At least for the gym in:
1. works on the phone
2. great synth engine
3. generative, yes and degrees of, but also you can select just a portion to evolve &! you can flip horizontally, or vertically your patterns as well as shifting it up or down left or right
4. key change, scale, change, mode change, octave change
5. full midi, and each color can drive a different MIDI synth
6. velocity control similar to step poly arp in that you can just swipe
7. tied notes and step length 1- 1/16
8. 16 -300bpm
9. an adjustable 1 step up to 32 step sequencer
Auxy (which I haven't used) seems useful for building up multi-layered arrangements and switching between patterns in mid-performance. Xynthesizr, which I really like, is a capable and intuitive step-sequencer. Some things it does NOT have that old-school sequencers do/did: ping-pong, an easy way to turn steps on and off. Some things it DOES have that old-school sequencers didn't: 32 steps (this one thing is huge); an easy way to constrict notes to a chosen scale; random note generation for part of the total pattern.
I like using it with analogue hardware, such as the Korg Volca Bass.
