Thats right, it allways is....
My 4 year old grandson found Thumbjam on my iPad yesterday while looking for games. Within minutes he was proudly showing off how he could play 'Mary had a Little Lamb'. Then he started pressing buttons and opening menus and discovering other things he could do. Fun and creativity. And he can't read yet.
Sounds like many people I know............
You have forced me to spend more money.............. jesus
He forced me to spend money on Pepp also, but don't regret it a bit.
[Shaking-off the bitch slaps] Fair enough, forum friends! I believe ThumbJam is worth the full asking price!
I am resisting buying Zed synth right now ...
maybe I just need to go watch a few ThumbJam videos, but I haven't really found the value in the app, as of yet.
JG sits in awe of how truly deep silence can sometimes be...
it's a really good midi controller with all the scales you can possibly imagine and more,
i use it as a keyboard for my mac vst's, or anytime i want to play a not sequenced melody (with a feel of improvisation) on any ios synth,
it also has nice natural sounding instruments
I never managed to make good use of the internal "looper/sequencer" but some people do
I think it's a neat app, but it's never been one I found as useful as a lot of other people do. Nothing against the app itself, it just never really fit a need I had.
I should rephrase to say, I haven't found the value that others seem to have found. I have found value in it, though. Mainly in the nice collection of sounds.
Resistance is futile.
Plus - Zed is best synth app I bought since ----------------------------------------geez
Long time.
Best sound quality since Nave.
Ok everyone has me convinced. Dropped the $8.99 on the app. Now I hope like heck it doesn't go on sale until December. Sorry everyone else.
Get a little garage beat going and play the steel drums in ThumbJam and you're halfway to usurping Jamie XX's gig.
With regards to the original question, I started into iOS music after growing frustrated with the way I was approaching GarageBand. I was stuck in a rut, developed some habits and assumptions that made the end product boring. I turned to music apps on the iPhone. Figure was great. I got nanoloop next, and the combo of simplicity and limits combined with a few open-ended bits (small sampler, sequencer options) gave me a couple satisfying results. The Brian Eno app Bloom was what made me think of iOS for music in the first place, it's a pretty therapeutic way to make music for yourself in the moment.
